What's the most physical trauma that you've been through? I'm curious, because it's usually the people that you expect the least, who have been through some pretty heavy stuff.
I cut 1/4 off of my left thumb, about four years ago. I was working in my shop, trying out a new table saw blade. While I was ripping through a piece of lumber, I noticed a little noise, which is usually caused by a knot in the wood. I finished up the cut, then turned off the saw. When I looked down at my hand, I noticed that the top of my thumb was hanging by a strip of skin. At that moment, the blood started to gush out.
The bone was knocked out of the tip, so the surgeon couldn't reattach the top. My thumb was attached to a flap of skin on my stomach for two weeks, to let the capillaries grow in.
Anyway, I was a few thousand richer a year later. I built a computer and saved the rest, until I bought my wife's engagement ring.
What's your story?

For a while there, I was suffering from serious stress...well, it got so bad that one time I was rushed to the emergency room because I couldnt stop throwing up....I was in the middle of a crowed shopping area it just hit me. They called the ambulance, and they couldnt put me in the wheelchair because I kept wanting to crawl up like a cat and just throw up...I honestly thought I was gonna die.
Anyway, the doc gave me a shot of something that made me feel REAAAAALLLL good...and then some of the same stuff in a pill. Now that thats all over, I can honestly say that I am not afraid of anything...except beer disappearing from the face of the earth....SmileSmile

beer disappearing from the face of the earth....
My worst nightmare!

I can only think of two times that something like that happened.
3rd grade I was taking Karate at a local church's activity center. The lights are those that they use for basketball courts, so they take a long time to warm up and fully turn on. JUst before we had gotten there they had mopped a small area of the floor, but didn't have a sign up. So a friend and myself were running around and I slipped on the water and about a inch of bleacher went into my left foot. I still have a huge scar from that. It bled forever.
In 5th grade I had a racing bike. My neighborhood is nothing but hills basically. I started at the top of one hill and was going down as fast as I could. About half way down a cat ran out in front of me and I hit it with my front tire. It flipped me and the bike over. I landed on my right wrist, fracturing it it three places and I ripped my pinky finger open. I also slid about 4 feet on the road on my face, they had to remove pieces of road from my face. Not too fun. About a week later I saw that cat again. He had a bald strip going across him from where my tire had ripped his hair out.

A few things happened to me over the years...I'll just mention these -
I fell from a high beam when I was 5yrs and split my chin open (having older brothers can make you go places you'd never be on your own)
While my brother was playing baseball in our back yard (when I was 6), the ball came full force and cracked me right in the eye.
I was at Cedar Point in 1978 with a friend, while riding the corkscrew, my safety bar came open and I started to fall out head first while the thing was upsidedown...but the gravity pulled me back into the seat.
My school bus plowed right into a huge dump truck on the way to school when I was in 4th grade - I was about the only person who walked away without a single scratch...the other kids weren't so lucky.
The bus driver had most of his face tore off.
I witnessed a guy falling off of the Thunderbolt at Kennywood park - he split his head open just a few short steps away from me. He wasn't killed though.
I lost a number of friends to car accidents, and I came very close to being in one of them...but as fate would have it, another friend offered to ride me to school that day just as was getting into that car.
I decided at the last second to go with the other friend.
Mine aren't so bad compared with other people I know - I've actually been lucky considering. -
A few years ago I was shoot in the face with a framing nail gun. The nail entered my cheek about an inch under my eye and the tip came out through the bottom of my chin.

I was airlifted to a hospital about 2 hours away and was stuck in a bed for about a month, my L1 vertabrie was completey smashed to pieces, they had to hold my spine together with titanuim rods that got screwed into my other 2 good vertabrie with 4 big screws,
but the worst pain was about 2 years ago I was laying sod for about 6 months when one of my disc's started bulging and was crushing my Scitica Nerve I was in so much pain for about 6 month untill I had surgery some times I was have to lay on the ground in a funny position for hours untill the pain died down it wasn't fun, now I have nerve damage and I still feel abit of pain in my foot and back. -
i was in a car wreck when i was 17.
i was at a stop light in a chevy cavalier, i had just gotten off work and was writing down my hours on sheet of paper on top of the steering wheel because i thought they were screwing me on them.. then green light shined down (i was still writing, not looking at the actual stop light), so i proceeded to make a left turn, then WHAM a pickup truck slammed in to me. i was thrown forward in the car, my sternum hit the steering wheel (bending it backwards) and my head smashed the windshield..
i didnt go to the hospital or see paramedics or anything, but for the next few days i had to sleep sitting down, coughing was excruciating(sneezing too), i couldnt turn my head without turning my body that way..
once in a while when i sneeze really hard my shoulder area hurts for a few seconds.
and you see kids, this is one of the voluminous reasons why am a professional badass..
next time, i'll tell you the story of how i single handedly killed an 8 foot grizzly bear that stole my good buddy jack ruby's hat. -

Just recently on 29/1/04 I slipped from an icy set of concrete steps when i was on my way to uni. I literally bounced from one step to the next (in total 8 steps) and fractured the neck of feumur (fractured hip). I was operated on the same evening and the surgeon stuck in a titanium nail into the bone and and another one across on top goin towards my groin.
I was in in bedrest for 3 weeks and was recently discharged 2 weeks ago, just recently ive started to walk alone without crutches. Now, i wonder if i can claim.

A couple of years ago, I was in a car accident. I was in the back seat and was thrown up into the seat in front of me. Broke my nose, knocked out two teeth, loosened another, split my bottom lip into two, and cut my leg up pretty bad. Couple of years later, its the best thing ever to happen to me (tons of money).
His name was MackemX
What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend? -
Just over three years ago i slipped about 5mm off a skateboard. off course the board then went down the half pipe leaving me at the top. this would have been ok except my left foot was stll on the board. i twisted as i fell and caused a six inch spiral fracture in my leg. not having a phone with me, i needed my friends to call for assistance. unfortunately they didn't believe i as truly injured. when i pulled back my trousers leg and showed them my foot lolling around on it's own, then they believed me. then i blacked out from the pain.
All this time later and my leg is still painful to the touch, and driving is quite hard for me. my right foot is about 30 degrees clockwise of where it should be. hey, it's the NHS, you get what you pay for.
I have to say, from a personal view i really disagree with people who claim compenstion from accidents, especially someone in a situation like jeex, clearly you could have avoided it, aor conquest - weren't you wearing a seatbelt, and is it cumpolsary for you to do so? and Kas, claim for what? for not being careful in icy conditions? -
honestly i was just typing a reply to this topic and my bro just came in to tell me my grandma just broke her arm(and i live with her)...so i'm litterally freaked out, most insane coincidence in the world...its visably broken, they're takin her to the hospital right now.
[edit] i'm never coming back to this thread again... -
When I was a kid I tried to walk across a fence wire like a circus tight rope walker, fell and impaled myself on a metal fence post. hurt like hell and I still have the scar.

My mate, the driver, then decides it would be a good idea to floor it and of course I fell flat on the face eating road. Luckily the girls house we were at that night was only a block or so away so I went back there to shake it off. The injuries weren't too bad, a swollen bleeding lip, knocked a few teeth slightly loose, bruised ego and some bad scratches. -
I bit completely through my tongue when I was about 4. That's the worst thing that's ever happened to me.

I broke my left arm at the elbow falling off my Chopper bike when I was about 10. It was quite a bad break and the doctors said that there was a 50-50 chance that I would be able to straighten my arm out fully when it had healed. Luckily it healed properly and my arm is fine.

Been blessed with good luck for me, but when I was in the Army I watched 2 helicopters have a mid air and crash on top of 5 guys on the ground.. Long story, bad memory.. Some of you state side guys might remember it being on the news, CNN was there that day.

A car smashes into a wall of a building, aged at 27.
It smashed as beyond repair and I got a head injury and a slight concussion. I was lucky as still alive and out of hospital only after a few hours. The car was a write off.
There were a couple other car accidents as minor and the vehicles were repaired. I wasn’t hurt in these accidents.I am a computer and movie addict -

LOL...in a similar incident....
We were out drinking one night...decided to mess around with a friend's house (nothing destructive), friend's father came out and shot AT us and I got hit with salt pellets...5 in my back, 3 in my leg as I was running away....anyway, we got to the car...friend's dad was coming down the road and we weren't getting in fast enough so I jumped on the hood and grabbed a hold of the top by the windshield wipers...plan was sound until my friend driving hung a corner a little faster than I could hang on for, I flipped off the hood and landed in the ditch...UN-injured...except for the long ass walk home with the salt stuck under my skin burning and burning all the way.
Not exactly traumatizing, but for 16 years now I thought I was the only retard stupid enough to jump on top of the outside of a car and it seem like a good idea at the time....Thanks Pacmania....I'm not alone[/b]

2 years ago this May I was on my lunch hour at my girlfriend's house when we had a huge arguement. She said some things, I said some things and I stormed off to head back to work, the entire time fuming in the car. I get back to work and enter the break room and I'm still pretty angry. In an effort to relieve a little tension, I hit a wall with my right fist.
I should also point out that I worked at a medical clinic as an x-ray technician. I failed to realize at the time that on the other side of the wall I punched was the x-ray room, meaning that the wall was lead reinforced. I hit that ******* thing with everything I had and I didn't even leave a mark on it. The sound afterwards was reminiscent of breaking a bunch of celery. Ended up fracturing the metacarpals(the bones between the wrist and fingers) in my ring and little fingers.
Kind of convenient actually because I immediately had one of my buddies shoot some films of my hand. At the time I had been a tech for a good 7 years and mine were easily the gnarliest x-rays I had ever seen. Those two bones were fractured in so many places I ended up having surgery a couple of weeks later where aluminum plates were implanted to try and hold everthing together while they healed. Two years later, my hand never completely healed and I have a cool 3 inch scar to show for my stupidity. -
After I got my vasectomy my balls swelled up the about the size of a grapefruit and I had trouble walking for about three weeks.
-
Makes me wonder if that Vasectomy thing was for real.
Anyway...This past year has been the worst...Developed high blood pressure, adult onset of asthma, sleep apnea and was diagnosed with MS. Plus my Mom died 2 months ago today from cancer. Prior to that, the worst that had happened was that I had gotten shot in the leg while on a tour bus with my folks when I was 11. We were in Williamsburg Va and some guy stole a tractor trailer and drove it from Richmond. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time, he crashed it into the bus to avoid a police roadblock up ahead. My Dad grabbed me and my sister and dragged us off the bus. Bad move cause the truck driver then started shooting at the cops and one of those buggers got me in the leg.No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space. -
