I would like to copy the entire DVD (movie) to DVD-R (no compression, etc.). Which software would give the best quality?
Thank you.

if "the entire DVD" is a dvd-9...u can't copy to a dvd-r(dvd-5) and keep everything. but use dvdshrink if u want my suggestion, reauthor, remove all soundtracks u don't want/need and if u still need just a little space...then clip off part of the credits. u might not be able to do this if its a long movie though, it'll let u compress it a good ways before u should be able to notice anything, so its worth a shot man.

The original dvd is dvd-5 so I shouldn't have any problem with copying the entire dvd.
Between many software available on the market, which would give the best quality?
Thanks. -
also dvdshrink, do a full disk backup extremely easy, and its free
[edit] actually some people like to use dvddecrypter for this, do a rip in iso mode, then after that u can use it to burn the iso onto a dvd-r also. -
chiyoaiki, here's a DVD Shrink guide for copying a FULL DVD-9 to a DVD-5 just in case you need it someday for reference even though you said in your post that you're just copy a DVD-5 to another DVD-5:

Hope That Helps!!!8)

Thanks everyone.
My main concern is the quality because the article "Copying DVDs, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly" by www.cdfreaks.com said that DVDShrink gave the worst quality amongst the 5 softwares (others are Pinnacle InstantCopy, DVDXCopy Xpress, DVD2one, CloneDVD) that they tested.
I had tried DVDdecrypter once but the result wasn't good (the pictures were flickering) and since I'm copying movies I would like to keep the original quality as much as possible.
Thanks. -
In my experience DVD X Copy gives very good quality, just horribly overpriced and not worth the money.

I cannot fault DVD Shrink in anything I have tried to do with it, i.e straight copies, compressed copies, manufactured single dvd's from several source dvd's. An excellent FREE product.

chiyoaiki,
If you've tried DVDDecrypter and the movie showed 'flickers' than you have at least one of the following happening since DVDDecrypter (w/ ISO read, ISO write) for DVD5 to DVD5 is a PERFECT copy:
- Your movie had 'flickers' in it to start.
- Your DVDr media is bad.
- Your player doesn't like your DVDr media.Have a good one,
neomaine

I read that article at cdfreaks. This guy must own stock in InstantCopy. That article was published back in July 2003. It seems as DVDShrink has improved vastly since that time, when it was version 2.3 I have a flat screen TV that gives a great amount of detail and I cannot see the difference in the original dvd and say a backup of the same dvd at 85% compression.

Use DVDdecrypter,
if you were getting a bad burn try slowing the burn down to 1 speed and try different (Better) media. -
Thanks everyone.
Between DVDdecrypter and DVDShrink, which would you recommend? Which would give a better quality?
What software should I use to burn? I know that I can use DVDdecrypter to burn as well as rip the dvd, should I it or other software? How about DVDShrink, can I use it to burn as well? According to DVDShrink website, "DVD Shrink will also burn your backup DVD, if you have installed the latest version of Nero.", is this means I have to use Nero to burn the dvd? If so, should I use Nero or go for other software?
Thanks. -
If you're copying a DVD-5 to a DVD-5 then there's no compression so quality will not be affected. You'll be copying exactly what's on the original disk.
