  1. I wonder if anyone can help.

I've been using DVD Workshop 2 for a while now, enjoyable, easy and quite flexible too.

One problem I've been having is that when I come to burn my disc, it is taking several hours to convert the video before it burns the disc.

I only use MPEG and AVI video files - is it like this for everyone, or am I doing something wrong?

Is there a way round this, or is there one standard I need to convert the video files to before they will burn? And if so, can I do this in any other program without losing quality?

    Thank you.

  2. Your avi files and any of your mpg files that are not dvd-compliant have to be converted to such... and then authored to structured folders before burning.
That process is what is causing your program to take "extra" processing time.
For details of above, see "what is DVDR" in the upper l/h column this page.
    Always check helpfiles/instructions before leaping...

  3. Thanks, I took a look at the link

I'm unsure of the DVD-compliant formats - Do they only play MPEGS, or one specific codec - What is the DVD-compliant format exactly?

The re-encoding in DVD Workshop takes a very long time, can I work around this by re-encoding the non-compliant video files in another program so that they are compliant? - I am familiar with VirtualDub and TmpegEnc.

    Newbie alert huh?!

    Thanks for your help.

  4. I avoid re-encoding by adjusting my Ulead DVD Workshop 2.0 project settings to precisely *match* the properties of my compliant source clips as explained in the step-by-step tutorial at the following link:

  5. Ahhh, thank you, that tutorial is great

I get the video properties just by right click, then properties?

  6. Yes - the right-click > PROPERTIES method usually provides a fairly comprehensive properties read-out.
