lately ive noticed when im burning a cdr on my dvdr dual that the cd's dont come out quite right. when i look on the bottom of the cd i see dark splotchs. of course this causes a prob with reading the disk. im using an emprex 8x(aka btc 1008) with gq media(the cheap stuff from frys). i havnt really had a prob with this media before with my regular 48x burner. im wondering is this the burner or the media? which do i blame??????

Splotches? That's a new one on me, but I'd suspect the disk. Have you tried a different brand? That would be the best way to isolate whether it's the disk or the drive....

I had this on some of my SVCD discs after about a month. It trashed them along with about 15 movies. Taught me never to use cheap discs. I suspect the blotches on my discs were the silver layer delaminating from the plastic from the heat of the DVD player.

yeah, it seems at lower speeds (16x) it doesnt seem to be as much of a prob.. so i wanna say it is the media.. i just wanna make sure cause ive only had the burner for 2 1\2 weeks... had a prob with cheap dvd media too.. guess i gotta stop bein so cheap..

i got a test set of 2 Ritek G04 DVD-R dics and 1 worked fine and the next one had a purple smear - i dont knwo if this was before i burnt or after. I was having aproblem with my dvd's (sandy yang brand) skipping and freezing at the end of movies - not sure where this smear came from either - i have a pioneer 105 burner and use nero 6

I hope you hadda get that junk off the internet, NO? -
off of ebay - yeah i know - i didnt realize until after -=[
some of the burns work , but most dont - the problem is that i still got the same exact error with the Ritek G04 disc - not sure why -
I also purchased Emprex DVD Burner drive from Fry's. I am facing a similar problem with GQ DVDs I purchased from frys. I tried burning 4 gb of data to the DVD disk.
I had no problem burning data, but I am not able to retrieve the data back. It takes 2 hrs to copy the data back to the the hard disk and even then , it fails to copy and terminates.
I am not sure whether the probelm is with the DVD writer or the DVD disk itself. I will buy a better quality DVD media and try again.
Also, the disk is getting heated up very quickly. -

i remember buying a 100 pack of GQ ("Great Quality", seriously) cd-r's a few years ago, they were the shittiest cd-r's in history.. they were silver/top green/bottom, a day after burning the sliver on top started peel off and the discs were useless.. i used the discs for transferring data from one computer to another, thats all they were good for, very short term use..
