  1. I have 12 avi's, using virtual dub they appear to all be the same compression. 10 of them converted from avi to mpeg fine using tmpgenc. 2 files end up going from 380MB to 2.5GB without sound.

The files are bloating but still work with no sound. I've been searching for a long time to a solution to my problem.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  4. I came here as a LAST resort, I looked in the topic stickys.

I have gotten virtual dub to give me this error

"VB has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during process for better compadibility...."

SO, is this problem because the audio was encoded with a variable bit rate? Do I demultiplex the file into two seperate files, audio and video and try to compress the file again?

My question/problem is I'm changing the avi to mpeg using tmpgenc using the vcd setting.

    thanks

  5. Save the audio stream from the AVI file as an uncompressed wav file using virtualdub. Full processing mode, no compression. Use this wav file as your audio source in TMPGEnc.

To answer your question, yes the problem occurs because of the vbr audio in the avi file. tmpgenc can not handle vbr audio this is why you need to uncompress it to a pcm wav file.
