I've got a Pioneer DVR-104 here (Cendyne rebranded) and I'm debating trading it to a friend. He doesn't mind the 2X burning speed but media is kind of an issue as I'm not quite sure if there is real 2X media being sold anymore (I know TDK sometimes uses G04's now) and I told him he may have to do a firmware upgrade. I found the firmware he'd need on Cendyne's page, but their technical support is rather limited and didn't answer really...any of my questions. What is the best setting to have the drive installed in the PC at for a firmware upgrade? I've been told not to use Cable Select, but should the Pioneer drive be set to Master or Slave? Does it make a difference? I just wanna know so I can go through with this trade without feeling guilt later because I didn't tell my friend the right way to do this.

  2. I have the same burner and I've done the firmware update... It doesn't matter whether it is a Master or Slave, personally I've never used Cable Select so can't help you there.

If the drive is working fine now, don't mess with it! I have the latest firmware update and even the Media that is suppossed to be 2x always burns at 1x, I suppose unless you get true 4x media this burner will always burn at 1x.

It is a great burner, I've never had any issues with it but it is getting to be a thing of the past since the faster burners are coming out and since you can get a Toshiba 4x for $65

Good luck and don't do firmware update if not needed.
