I have an Acer Aspire Laptop 5051
it has the Pioneer DVD-RW DL DVR-K17RS drive and i want to update the firmware - some of te 8x speeds discs Iam getting are only burning at 2x which takes 30minutes a pop...
can anyone help in locating such firmware? ACER dont have any

They don't have anything for your drive at this time, but you might check back from time to time as that may change. They add firmware all the time.
You might try burning with ImgBurn (it's free) instead of whatever you are using. The 2x issue might possibly be with your burning program. It could also be the media you are using. Better quality media, which in the USA now means ONLY Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden, should burn up to the maximum speed. -

its the firmware that determines the rec speed for the media - I have it on 8x but it goes at 2x
i do use cheap media but this is first time its happened in 4 years - it just mean the firmware doesnt have any record for that media so records at slowest speed to ensure it works
