  1. Has some one benchmarked these three software in term of DV AVI to MPEG-2 (for DVD) conversion ?
Does anyone have the numbers (speed comparison) ?

  2. If you are referring to the old TMPG beta, I found it about half as fast as my 2.58 version. I guess that's about on par with BBMpeg. I can't speak for CCE....

  3. No, TMPGEnc 12a beta isn't THAT slow.

    I'm currently working on a comparison between some encoders(ccebasic, tmpgenc2.521,tmpgenc12a,mainconcept,procoderexpres s). I'm testing CBR, 2passVBR and also high-quality and default-quality settings.

1 minute PAL DV Clip converted to PAL MPEG2 with avg 4000kbit/s

    CCE Basic
    CBR - 52 sec
    VBR - 104 sec

    Mainconcept (default quality setting)
    CBR - 59 sec
    VBR - 66 sec

    Mainconcept (high quality setting)
    CBR - 283 sec
    VBR - 283 sec

Tmpgenc2521 (motion search precision: motion estimate search)
    CBR - 112 sec
    VBR - 230 sec

Tmpgenc2521 (motion search precision: high quality)
    CBR - 217 sec
    VBR - 429 sec

    Tmpgenc12a (motion search precision: normal)
    CBR - 210 sec
    VBR - 400 sec

I haven't tested procoder express yet. I will also do some video quality comparison later and make a table so you can easily compare them.

  8. Canopus Procoder can do more than TMPGEnc, and usually do it faster.
