  1. Can you convert DVD -VR diskettes to standard dvd+r disks? I understand that most Desktop DVD (recorders) record in DVD -VR format. When you record from a Desktop DVD recorder to DVD+RW is that also in DVD-VR format? I would like to take the DVD-VR rip it on a PC, edit out the commercials, and then burn a final copy on DVD +R format.

Can this be done? I do appreciate your time and effort.

  2. I just copy (the DVD-VR)..the .VRO file onto my PC and rename it to a .VOB file. But if you are interested then this program will do a 'conversion' (not that IMO anything needs converting!).

Some DVD-roms can't read a VR disk, but there is a patch to overcome this.

  4. Do you have to upgrade windows XP to see the .VRO files? Or is it a bios flash or something for the dvd rom? If you rename your files from .VRO to .VOB can you still edit the ok or burn them?

    Thanks again for your time,

TMPGenc DVD Author will read the DVD VRO file directly.

Ulead Video Studio 7 will read it using the VR capture utility.
Yes, I followed Specialist's guide on this, thank you.
On my machine it was somewhat slower than the other
two....I am in need of a defrag, an will try it another time
when my backlog of videos is less.

Womble MPEG2VCR will read it, but you must select "all files" when
navigating to your drive to actually see the .vro file. Once
done, it's probably the fastest that I use.

I did try other methods, but experienced sync problems in
    my final video.

I have a Philips recorder and use DVD Decrypter to transfer each recording to my hard drive as one .VOB file then simply change the file extension to .MPG.
This file can then be authored in the usual way.
I use Movie Factory 2 which works fine.
