Well, I've just finished making my first successful dvd, not too bad but the color looks a bit washed out. I used TMPGEnc to convert avi to mpeg2 and then burn. I need to learn how to edit before I burn. Do I do this in TMPGEnc before I convert? How is this accomplished, or is it even the best way to go about enhancing colors etc? I have my vcr connnected to my passthrough camcorder with rca cords and not svideo because the vcr does not have that. Maybe that's a better place to start? Or is there a convert program with more edit features that might be better? And what settings would provide the best results? I'm tryin, I really am....

It is best to edit in AVI, rather than MPEG, as MPEG can be fussy about beng edited. A coupe of decent editors are Virtual Dub mod (freeware), and Ulead Video Studio 7 (trial ware). Look in the Edit section at left and check out the guides to see if you find something you can handle.

You can do basic editting in TMPGEnc using the source range function prior to your encoding. Just simple mark-delete if that's all you require. There's also a colour correction filter as well.

Yes, many people use it to cut out commercials from captured footage.
