I recently bought a dual format burner
I have been sticking to dvd+r because that is what my previous burner burnt
last week I accidentaly bought some dvd-r
I know my burner will burn them but don't know if my player will play them
or if they are worth keeping
are dvd-r discs as compatable as dvd+r???

You have just opened a can of worms. Just keep following this thread to see what I mean.
Burn Baby Burn
It's a Disk-o Inferno -
Quick version, technically DVD-R by a small hair. +R is fine on most equipment especially if you use Bit Setting (if yoru burner supports it)
End of story. -
yes I know it's a can of worms
but I can still exchange these dvd-r and don't want to be stuck with them if they are not as compatable
my burner does support bitsettingOriginally Posted by Flaystus -
You've already been given the answer but you've missed it.
In essense:
DVD-R is on the whole more compatibile than DVD+R.
There is, however, no meaningful difference with newer players.

Yeah, you know better, don't you.Originally Posted by Flaystus
Because it adheres to certain specifications of the DVD Forum (they are the ones who own the DVD logo found on your machine) DVD-R has a higher compatibility.
Why? Because there are older machines that were manufactured based on these specifications, and before the +RW Alliance existed.
How much more compatible? Something like 2% of model numbers produced, not 2% of units in service with DVD owners.
Does it matter? VERY RARELY!
I author both DVD-R and DVD+R daily. Nobody's ever contacted me with a problem that was traced to a format incompatiblity. It's either them providing shite media or me making a conversion mistake.
The bottom line? JUST BURN THE FLUCKING DISCS, MAN!

have you even bothered to search this? it has been answered a thousand times....

It makes no difference.......until you try using older Toshibas (SD-1750, SD-2200, SD6200). I have all three and they won't play ANY DVD+Rs. They have no problem with TDK, Mitsui & Memorex DVD-Rs though.

There's a player database that will tell you if your player can play negative media on this site.

I've sent both + and - out to friends and family....no complaints on either format.
So I agree with indolikaa...
