I was backing up a movie with RCE protection. So when I went to backup the disk in DVDShrink it came up with it's normal RCE protection warning, something to the effect of:
"This DVD has RCE protection, select the region for this disk to make it region free"
So I selected Region 1 and it said coudln't not break RCE protection or something, so I went back and selected, "Do not make this disk region free"
It ripped and burned fine, however now it won't play in my DVD player(Sony 5 Disc). Now every other DVD+R I've burned, it's played fine, so I'm guessing the RCE protection is the reason it failed. It does play on my DVD-ROM in my computer (LiteOn) without issue.
My question is, should I have tried another program when DVDShrink couldn't break the RCE protection?

Sorry, I forgot to add that the error I got on my Sony DVD player was a dirty disk error. I forget the error code.

the region is set on your you drive right? if its not it will cause probs.
-
If your error code was C:13:00, it usually means your player doesn't like the media you're feeding it. It doesn't have anything to do with the authoring in that case unless you're miles off and have really made a hash of things.
I get this a lot with my Sony if I stray away from my tried and tested discs. -
That might have been the code...I forgot, what it was, I can check when I get home.
However, I've been using the same media since I got my burner, and I've burned like 30 discs all without problems. I use Memorex 4x DVD+R and I burn at 2.4x.
Because I've never had this issue until I ran into the RCE protection problem, I think that caused the error. Just not sure how to get around it. -
It's not bad media.. I have a Sony DVP700P and it gives me the infamous "C:13:00: Disc is dirty" message when there was a problem in reauthoring (non-compliance with DVD standard or something stripped without replacing with dummy files).. and/or region problem..
Use IFOedit to make 'Region Free' by importing the VIDEO_TS.IFO and saving the new IFO file.. -
Hmm, that's interesting. So it appears as though DVD shrink couldn't rip it correctly. The interesting thing is I opened up my DVD+R with DVDDecrypter and it says it's Region Free and has no RCE Protection.
DVDShrink must have just messed something up. -
Oh yeah one more thing, I didn't reauthor, I did a full disk backup cause it was a short video and I could fit without compressing.

I get that same stupid error message. What I do is just eject the tray and place the disc back in till it does work. It may take a few tries till it does work. FYI - I've had success with both Memorex +R and -R 4x on my Sony.
