  1. I have a client who wants their final DVD product in different region formats (specifically 2 and 4). DVD SP has the option to turn on or off all regions, but I wanted to make sure that my regular Ritek 4x DVD-R media and Pioneer 106 burner will work fine in creating different region encoded disks.

Anyone have an answer for certain?

Region code is written into the .ifo and .bup files, I think, which is what DVD Studio Pro writes when compiling the disk. You can write region coded (or region free) disks from your content on your burner. I think DVDSP2 will also add Macrovision. The only thing your burner won't be able to add is CSS encryption.

Yes, blank media is just that, blank. All the settings are in software. DVD Studio PRO does Region, Macrovision, and CSS. The only thing it doesn't do is RCE. You can even use the test version of MTR to make a Region restricted disc, I've done a few, just for testing 8) Personally I'd never use this crap, why bother when it's easy to work around and just pisses people off

If you set the region in DVDSP to 'all', it will play fine in all regions (including 2 and 4) capable of playing the color format (PAL or NTSC). Just make the project work in all regions, and your customer shouldn't have any problems, no matter what region they're in (as long as they can play the color format, and that you have used good, compatible DVD-R media that works in their players).
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  6. Thanks for all the responses!

The region settings should be fine. They'll still need NTSC players, unless I get a PAL conversion (not likely).
