I have captured some VHS video that has poor audio on it. I've captured it using Pinnacle in avi format. Converted this to mp2 using Canopus Procoder and then encoded this to mpeg using TMPGenc. I'd like to edit the audio on it using a wave editor (or like) to try to improve it. TMPGenc will only export audio as an mp2 file which nothing I've got will edit. I have converted this to a wav file but now Nero Wave Editor is acting up and giving this error "An error occured while trying to open the wave output device". Anyone got any nice easy ideas how to edit this damn audio??? Can it be editted in mp2 format? If not whats anotehr good wave editor besides Nero?

  2. Try mp3directcut. Don't forget to download the mpglib.dll on the bottom of the homepage. You'll need it for the mp2 files. This will allow you to edit your files without the need for recompression, and any losses. There's likely to be a slight 'click' though unless you cut on a silent bit.
    Nothing if not difficult

Tmpgenc MPEG Encoder can output the audio of the file in WAV format.
Try File --> Output To File --> WAVE File.

You can then chose the audio codec, where you should select PCM Uncompressed. This will be accepted by any audio editor.

However, if you plan to cut portions of the audio, you will end up with a useless audio track that won't sync with the video.

If you want to modify volume or clean up noise, then it's ok.

Once you are done with editing the audio, use the MPEG tools in Tmpgenc Encoder (File -->MPEG Tools) to demux the original MPG file to video and audio, delete the original audio, re-encode the new edited audio with Tmpgenc as a single audio file to MPEG 1 layer II and multiplex it with the video stream to get a new MPG file.

(Sounds more complicated than it really is. If the file is large, it will be boring as well to wait for the demux and re-mux to complete.)
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
