  1. Hi

    I have an avi movie encoded with divx, and I want to edited in premiere, but the moment I open the movie, it premiere crashes. What can I do?

    I could encode the movie to mpeg 2 but I need to transport the premiere project and the movie is like 2gb and I don't have a dvd burner, thats why I used divx so it could fit in a cd.

    Thanks

    I don't think Premiere or many other editing apps support the DivX codec. You'll have to encode it to a different codec to edit it in premiere.

    I suggest you either go with the uncompressed or the DV-AVI codec.

    You'll need to edit it then re-encode it to DivX.

    If you still have the original footage before you encoded it to DivX, edit that and encode the final file to DivX. You will lose quality going from regular AVI > DivX > DV-AVI > DivX

  3. I was experiencing the same problem. Whenever I would import mpeg-2 files into the source monitor Adobe Premier Pro would crash. I found the answer on this site. Use Virtuadub-Mpeg2. My settings are as follows:
    Video -> fast recompress with the Divx 4.12 codec.
    Audio-> AC-3 ACM Decompressor.

    I save all of my files as AVI files, and I now have no problems with Premiere crashing. I hope that helps.
