Hello all,
I'm trying to burn some AVIs that were recorded at 640x480 onto VCD.
I convert them using TmpgEnc 2.5 to MPEG with the VCD template (NTSC) and then burn them using Ahead Nero or VCDEasy
When I look at the MPG or the AVI on my PC, you can see it fine. However, when you view it on the TV through the DVD Player, the image is being clipped - there is an inch or so missing from the bottom and who knows from the edges and top.
I have checked my TV(s) for screen width/size - there is none. I have checked the DVD player for settings. On all the settings, the result is the same.
What can I do? (and please, answers of: just watch them on your PC, or run a cable from your video card to your TV need not apply)

If you use a 16:9 television you should check that you have no 4:3 to 16:9 cropping filters enabled. But they only cut the edges on bottom and top, so if that's not your problem, then this is propably not the solution.
-
that is what is happening, the top is being cut off - but are you saying that I would know? I can't find any options like that in the TV or DVD player

Sounds like overscanning
Overscan - The area at the edges of a television tube that is covered to hide possible video distortion. Overscan typically covers about 4 or 5 percent of the picture. -
You should know if you have a widescreen (16:9) television or not, and if you do, you should know how to use 16:9 cropping as well. But if you don't have a 16:9 tv, or you know that you're not using the cropping thingy, then your TV just has extra big overscanning.

Both TVs I tried did this.. and I looked for any "Screen" settings on both, no dice, on them or the DVD player.
I severely doubt it's a widescreen TV.. It looks very standard.. big screen but not widescreen. -
it's called overscan.
All televisions cut off a bit from the edges. they generally cut off about 10%, and usually things that are made for tv avoid having anything important too close to the edge of the frame.
you can try overscan compensation, which is something that i often do...
using TMPGEnc to encode, change the clip frame settings so that it is centered at about 90% size.
(if encoding at 352x240, overscan compensated image should be centered at about 317x216 with black bars on all four sides.)
these black bars will not show when viewing the material on your television, but will show on your computer monitor, as your computer will not do overscan.
also, if the source file is 640x480, Super Video-CD would be a much better method of conversion, as the resolution is about the same.asdf
