Hi,
Please can someone tell me how (or IF) I can import DVD-Video into DVD-Lab.
So far, I can only import .m2v files etc. But I have a pre-compiled, compatible DVD-Video folder (VIDEO_TS) and I want to simply add menu's to it... so how do I import the DVD-Video?
Thanks.

Import the vob file and in the dialog box, say that it is an already compliant file.
Simple, unless I missed something.
I do this all the time when I add sub-titles to my home made videos. Since DVD-Lab doesn't support it, I create the dvd in ifoedit, then import the vob to DVD for menu creation, etc. -
So do I import the VOB file by doing "import asset"? Because when I do this it does not give me the option of saying that is a "compliant dvd" it asks me if I want to demux etc...
Also, the DVD-Video I want to import is a movie split into 5 VOB files, so would I just import each VOB file and assign them to 5 different "movies" in the project?
If the movie already has subtitles... will DVD-Lab get rid of them or are they not affected?
Thanks. -
When it asks you to demux, pick no.
If your movie spans more than one .vob file (its larger than 1GB), then you need to use DVDDecrypter to rip the DVD into one vob file first. As far as I know, you can't join vobs within DVD-Lab.
If there are subtitles, they will be preserved as long as you don't demux the file. -
Here's what the DVD-lab Help file says:
"When importing source VOB files, DVD-lab offers a third option. That is, for DVD-lab to join together source program VOB files into one rather large but continuous file. VOB files are divided into 1GB blocks for compatibility with older systems. For joining purposes, DVD-lab requires that your first selected file is the first of the VTS_ named files such as VTS_XX_1.VOB. If you were to then select file names: VTS_XX_1.VOB , VTS_XX_2.VOB, VTS_XX3.VOB (etc.) and Drag & Drop these files into your Assets / Video & Audio bin, DVD-lab will offer a third option to join all sequential VOBs. When this option is selected, a prompt appears for the disk location of the resulting joined.VOB file which will be a very large file. Consider going out to lunch when this process starts."
Those Help files sure can be helpful!

ok guys thanks for your help. But before I try it I just wanted to ask one more thing...
You said that subtitles should be preserved, does that include addtional audio streams as well? Because If I simply joined the movie VOBS and imported them wouldnt that mean that the subtitles would be left out because are they not in the IFO file? maybe I'm wrong and don't know what I'm talking about!! -

here's a basic dvdlab guide -
It's my understanding that all the streams; video, audio1, audio2, subtitle1, subtitle2 are all multiplexed into the vob file. The ifo file contains the instructions on to play the vob file. Does that make sense?
DVD-Lab does not directly support more than one audio stream, and it doesn't support subtitles at all. But if they are contained in the vob file, they won't be removed. I added them using this guide:
http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=subtitles&name=subtitleadd
I never rip sub-titles since my native language is english and all of DVD's that I own default to english. I add subtitles to my home movies to provide commentary on the video. I hate narration of home vidoes, especially since you can't turn it off. So I have sub-titles to provide commentary, and then the viewer can turn it off if they don't want it. Bottom line is that all the sub-titles videos I have ever done, I have authored myself.
Hope that helps. -
I've been using DVD Lab since ver 1.0, and the VOB demuxer in ver 1.3 and later has never correctly joined a movie - and it tries to!!!! every time!
I wouldn't recommend using the demuxer - forgive me Oscar: Use DVD decrypter or MPEG2VCR to rip a large mpeg (VOB) to the HDD - or you can import into TMPGenc DVD Author directly (chapters and all) after ripping with DVD decrypter; the menus won't come out as nice, but the chapters'll be correct and it will play. If the extras and movie are different resolutions (audio, etc.) add a new item for each. -
You can use filemerger at Doom9. Look in the VOB Tools section. Don't know if DVDRhelp's filemerger is the same software but the screenshots are different.
