On a kinda unrelated topic, have you considered getting a check card? They're accepted at quite a few online sites...

SVP sell Taiyo-Yuden printable cds, they look much better than the silver ones in my opinion.

So when you hear that the Queen is living in London, you think she's a Canadian? Not exactly what you asked, but maybe someting here will help you better deal online without creditcards
Do you have banks there that have the debit cards with free checking accounts?
I also refuse to have a credit card, I do use a mastercard debit card I got with a free checking account. Don't know what kind of banks you have there and they vary a ton here in the USA, but mine is totally free.
Life was a nightmare for awhile without a credit card, I buy a few hundred dollars of stuff a month online now. Just got to have the money in the account first
Buy now, pay now, no interest or credit headaches! Also normally no credits checks if that's a problem for some people.
I found many (but not all) online stores will take other payments if you call them. Might have to place the order over the phone, and they do an e-check type thing off your checking account.
Sometimes they have said add the items to the shopping cart then print the page, use that as an order form and mail it with a check or money order. It takes longer to mail an order but it's a way to deal with many companies without a credit card. I did that with some companies for awhile before getting the debit card.
I also have found a few places that do not like to take paypal, but have an acount and will take a paypal payment. You have to call or e-mail the sales department about wanting to place an order but not having a credit card. If you have Paypal?
Also many people don't realize you can set up a paypal account from a savings account, many people think it has to be a checking account. We just set up the daughter her own paypal off her savings, she doesn't have a checking account yet. Dumb bank won't let her have one till she's 18, but any age can have a savings account
If you find a company that has what you want for the price you want to pay, it's often worth calling about. Some have other options they don't post on the website since most people have credit cards. If they have a toll free number you can call, sometimes it's worth calling -
I cut up all my credit cards, but I order online all the time. It's called a debit card?

Other banks will issue "Secured Credit Cards" ... too ... Bank of America ... etc ... etc.
Great way to start your credit history. Wells Fargo has already contacted me ... asking me if want to switch over to non-secured credit card.
Having a credit card is very useful on the Internet ... especially when I'm buying stuff on EBay.
Two days ago ... I bidded and won ... a JVC GR-DVL820U camcorder[List Price $999.99] for $279.00 ... on EBay. -
SVP also accept Nochex, cheque and Switch.
Just order on the site and select to send the payment seperately. -

- There are cardless online payment options. You register your account, upload it by a bank wire transfer and shop over the web. The point is that the shop you’ve chosen must register its own account within the same system, if they haven’t done it already. So you might have to ask them to do it - usually it is quick and free. As they want you to buy something, they will do it. You can try at http://bank.dukascopy.com/english/welcome/ I use them for online trading and heard nothing bad about them unlike Paypal. -

I know ... I did it. -
AAwww..the joys of not owing £1000's to credit card companies...! I remember those days from my yout.

You don't need a credit card. A debit card like Visa Electron is more than OK for any action!
VISA Electron cards (debit) are better and safer Credit cards. The only minus is that they don't credit you, but from the other hand, they also don't charge you anything! You pay from what you have in your account! Empty account = no payment.
I prefer that. -
Hey... I know... I'll not help the guy a little more and give him more useless advice!!! Why don't get one of new american express gift cards?
Or... instead of bashing your head against a wall trying to find an online store that will take your moldy, sweaty cash... go to a normal brick and mortar store. I'm not too sure, but I think that is one thing that the USA and England have in common. We both have stores even if there is no Wells Fargo Bank who gives out free check cards with a free checking account, and can provide you with a secured credit card, which you didn't ask for in the first place. -
In the United States, credit cards have certain rights that allow you to dispute charges. Debit cards do not!
First time you get screwed on E-Bay or a shady internet site you will be happy you didn't use a debit card.
Some cards with Visa and MasterCard symbols are not credit cards and will have payments deducted directly from your checking account. These are debit cards. Under federal law, you do not have the right to "charge back" problem purchases to a debit card as you do with a conventional credit card. Also, if a debit card is lost or stolen, you can have unlimited liability for losses if you do not report the problem within 60 days, which is different from the $50 maximum liability on credit cards. (Exception: the $50 limit applies to debit cards as well as to credit cards in Massachusetts.)
