I have a really old VHS tape which I want to caputre however there is alot of static, and popping in the sound. If I capture the video is there any way to remove the static and popping later?

yeah, with some work..
goldwave has a couple of good filters in it. One is called hiss/click remover, one is a noise reduction filter.
There are loads of other software out there that can do the same things, Adobe Audition is a good one. -
I found that soundforge noise reduction has a nice click and crackle remover plugin as well as a vinyl plugin too that works wonders.
