It isn't much after I graduated from school IMO but I wanted to get a DVD-RW drive. I heard that maybe Phillips and perhaps Pioneer DVD-RW drives such as the Pioneer DVD-106D drive which of course is rumored to support dual layer recording up to 8.5 GB.
I don't know if any of you know if any drives that are capable of burning 8.5GB with a firmware upgrade. But if that is possible, which drive should i get? I was thinking of spending like $130 or less on a dvd-rw drive.

The Pioneer 107 $140 at Newegg has some of the cleanest burners if not the clenest burns from the K-probes I've seen. Nec-2500A which uses the same chipset is also very popular. the Pioneer has a hacked firmware that will allow 8x burning on some 4x media. Pioneer also seems to have more firmware upgrades.
