In the past i have done this but it takes a million hours to convert the avi to mpg then write the mpg to dvd. I convert using aare avi to dvd then sonic to write it. With nero you have to have the vob files etc. WHAT IS THE FASTEST WAY TO WRITE AN AVI, DIVX OR MPG to DVD-R (actually written onto the disc)

The new 8 speed writers would be the fastest, about 8 minutes for a full disc.

For actual conversion time (avi to mpeg) some people say that Mainconcept is fast as well as Cinemacraft (CCE). I'm not usually in that much of a rush and just use TMPGEnc and let it go overnight.

  4. Are you trying to make the disc playable on a standalone player? The FASTEST way would be to just burn a data DVD with the .avi files, and then use a PC to view them.

i use tmpgenc to convert avi to mpeg -i haven't tried Mainconcept for avi to mpeg but have encoded mpeg's in it - i have been having a sync problems and used virtual dub to save to an avi then i am converting with tmpgenc - doesnt take that long for a 1.5g file - i used the compressor that came with Pinnacle and put the value on 18 - I'm hoping when I use my new mpeg the audio will be in sync after i burn -
one way i found out to see if it is in sync before burning is to use tmpgenc dvd author - i go to chapter edit and play at te end of the file and see if it is in sync or not - you can do that instead of wasting time burning and checking - as for my sync problem that i had like yours i'm hoping this works -i tried sound forge and making the audio the same as the video but that doesnt work -

Tedious isn't it (all this file conversion stuff).

I've finally said bollox to it and got me sen a Yamada 6100 DVD player (a standalone) that plays avi's (divx/xvids). £80 from Amazon ...cheaper than the time, power and media involved in transcoding just burn the avi to a cd.... so no conversion and no bloody pc running with TV out... soooo...do I win a prize?

The Yamada's great (the remotes a bit tacky looking) but so what...it works!

Could well be the best money I've spent this year, HIGHLY recommended for people who want an easy life..........or just a life.

I'll still be doing DVD>DVD but no more avi>VCD/SVCD/DVD..... hurrah!
