  1. It's quite possibly the worst thing that could happen to the sport. I hate those freaking Yankees!

Hmm.. the yankees... they are the baseball equivalent of manchester united are'nt they? the team everyone loves to hate! Did you know that these 2 'teams' even joined forces recently(in the business world of course) deciding to sell each others merchandise in their 'fan stores'.

Baseball needs parity like the NFL has. The game shouldn't be about who spends the most money.

A-Rod was an expensive *******. I'm glad the Rangers got rid of him. That club needs money to improve, and they need players that want to be there and will be working to improve the team. Not a player in the back of the dugout that thinks he's better than everybody else.

    New York can have him.

I can't even afford non-bleacher baseball tickets anymore because of guys like that.

A-Rod was American league MVP on a stinker of a Texas team last year, MLB MVP's usually come from winning teams. Tom Hicks made A-Rod rich and in doing so changed the pay structure in baseball forever so blame him and Stienbrenner(owners) if you can't afford to attend games.

  8. No, the reason we can't afford to attend games is because over the past twenty years we (the fans) have continued to pay ridiculous prices for tickets. It's all market driven. We quit paying silly prices and they WILL come down to a more realistic level.

Tom Hicks didn't make A-Rod rich, and neither did the owners. We did.

  9. Actually baseball ticket prices are still reasonable compared to other pro sports, have you been to a football or basketball game lately? $65 for nose bleed seats
Owners in big cities will always have more money to spend because of TV contracts...more people watching your TV station or pay-per-view=more advertising dollars.More money=better players...it's a vicious cycle.

  10. I wonder if A-rod will be another Ken Griffey, Jr. A very expensive bench-warmer. And in a small market like Cincinnati or Pittsburgh, that could ruin a team. But ....the Yankees have the money. I wonder why they don't just save themselves the trouble and have a World Series trophy custom-made. It's the same thing they're already doing - buying the series - and this way it would be much cheaper

Baseball needs a salary cap like the other sports. Since that's not likely, we need to talk with our feet. If we don't go to watch the games, they can't pay the salaries. If we don't buy MLB Extra Innings, they can't pay the salaries. This approach was starting to work after the '94 strike, but Sosa and McGwire rejuvenated the sport so now salaries are in a vertical takeoff mode again. True that other sports have higher ticket prices, but how many other sports play 81 home games per season? The only one that's close is basketball, and they have only half the personnel to pay salaries to, and lower facilities overhead than baseball does. Plus, IMHO, basketball is about as exciting as watching my toenails grow :P Give me baseball any day ...a true thinking-man's sport. BOOYAH!!!
