This was emailed to me by Staples and sounds to good to be true. Sooo I thought I would pass it on. Good hunting if you use TDK and it is true.

I hope I also got it in the right forum

If you hunt and peck thru the shelf, you might find 1 or 2 packs of the -R discs made in Japan still left. The newer ones are all Taiwan-made, but not sure who makes them. If anyone knows...let us know.

Made in Japan is either TDK or Maxell, made in Taiwan is usually Ritek G04.

  5. All of the TDK-R around here at Staples (DC) has the made in Taiwan sticker. I bought several packages and according to DVD Info they are RitekG04 and 4x - not the 2x stated on the package. Staples probably priced them low thinking they were 2x, not realizing they are in fact 4x.

The deal of the year so far.

  6. Thanks for sharing that with us. I bought some HP disc from the last tip on this forum.. That's an amazing price.. I'll be there when they open tomorrow, hopefully they have some at my local store!!

  13. Which do you like best? The TDK +R (RicohJPNR01) or the TDK -R (RitekG04)? I am absolutely new to DVDR stuff...just got my drive yesterday - the NEC 2500. I did pick up some of each at Staples earlier today but haven't burned yet. DVDInfoPro did confirm that they are Ricoh and Ritek though.

Well, everything being equal, +R will burn at 8x for ya. Its really what YOU like best. If you can play a +R just as good as a -R then get the plus and burn quicker, otherwise whatever u feel comfortable with.

  15. I went to four different Staples today and picked up a bunch of the 10 packs. They were all marked made in Taiwan, but they are the regular TDKG02000000 media code, which is 2X media. Still a decent deal.

  16. I found 5 "Made in Japan" DVD-R packs at my Staples. The rest were Taiwan.

4X DVD+R TDK is not good as Imation (25 pack) DVD+R 4x by Ricoh.
Try will try to burn 10 of them to see how good they are before I return the rest and let you know.

The 6 cases I just bought are all made in Taiwan, and the ones I've checked all have a media ID of TDK0200000.

  25. i just got back from staples and picked up 15 packs of them. They are all made from taiwan. They are CMC..... just burned one at 4x and it seems to be okay. should return the rest of them (being that they are CMC)?
    Quote Quote
  26. ok, thanks! I checked another pack 2X CMC!!!! damn them.
The ONLY difference is the Made in Taiwan label has slightly larger type. And the printing on that label appears to be lower resolution and is breaking up a bit. Other than they look the same. And this may not hold true for all... who knows how they label them. It's pretty hard to tell without seeing them side by side.
    Quote Quote
  27. ok, and on that label... on the Riteks, the "DVD-R47AS10" is right below the barcode #, on the CMC there is a gap/space.
So if you bought multiple packs, can you confirm this? I'm not opening another that looks like it's CMC, and only have one Ritek pack.

The made in Japan labels also look to be printed on a sep machine from these two so this may be the way to tell.
    ???????

,Actually we should not scared of CMC MAG. Frankly, I alread burned over 90 Optimum DVD-R 2X and all of them are good, never have a bad disks, I still have 10 more to finish a set of 100. I came to this site and I was told that CMC is bad, that's why It stuck in my mind . Go and buy it guys, it is cheaper than a dollar and you can return at the store if it is bad. If you buy on net, then you may pay for shipping and return shipping cost
    Cheers,
