If you hunt and peck thru the shelf, you might find 1 or 2 packs of the -R discs made in Japan still left. The newer ones are all Taiwan-made, but not sure who makes them. If anyone knows...let us know.
-
Made in Japan is either TDK or Maxell, made in Taiwan is usually Ritek G04.
-
All of the TDK-R around here at Staples (DC) has the made in Taiwan sticker. I bought several packages and according to DVD Info they are RitekG04 and 4x - not the 2x stated on the package. Staples probably priced them low thinking they were 2x, not realizing they are in fact 4x.
The deal of the year so far. -
Thanks for sharing that with us. I bought some HP disc from the last tip on this forum.. That's an amazing price.. I'll be there when they open tomorrow, hopefully they have some at my local store!!
-
The Staples near me has a display of about 50 10 packs. I checked out a few and they are the made in Taiwan sticker on them. I'll be back tomorrow to pick a few up.
-
Too bad Staples Canada never seems to have DVD blanks on sale for decent prices....
-
Unfortuntaly I get to work untill noon
and the staples store here opens at 10 am. I will cross my fingers, and hope they will give me a rain check on them. If not I am jumping for joy that I could help someone here.

-
Well, everything being equal, +R will burn at 8x for ya. Its really what YOU like best. If you can play a +R just as good as a -R then get the plus and burn quicker, otherwise whatever u feel comfortable with.
-
I went to four different Staples today and picked up a bunch of the 10 packs. They were all marked made in Taiwan, but they are the regular TDKG02000000 media code, which is 2X media. Still a decent deal.
-

Well, the +R says 4x and the -R says 2x so if u bought the plus R then U should get 4x or ur money back.
-
RE: the DVD-R
ok, of course the Made in Japan DVD-R are 2x, and (still) the Made in Taiwan DVD-R are Ritek G04 4x. -
Hummm... I bought all of them made in taiwan, so I thought it was Ritek04. HOw do we know which one is made from Ritek or Ricojh not CMC
4X DVD+R TDK is not good as Imation (25 pack) DVD+R 4x by Ricoh.
Try will try to burn 10 of them to see how good they are before I return the rest and let you know. -

sabercats, did you actually get Made in Taiwan DVD-R that are CMC? or just the +R?
-
Lobe,
I only bought DVD+R 4X, because DVD-R is only 2X
I will return 2 of 4X and exchange for 2X then let you know later.
-
i just got back from staples and picked up 15 packs of them. They are all made from taiwan. They are CMC.....
just burned one at 4x and it seems to be okay. should return the rest of them (being that they are CMC)?
-
ok, thanks! I checked another pack 2X CMC!!!! damn them.
The ONLY difference is the Made in Taiwan label has slightly larger type. And the printing on that label appears to be lower resolution and is breaking up a bit. Other than they look the same. And this may not hold true for all... who knows how they label them. It's pretty hard to tell without seeing them side by side. -
ok, and on that label... on the Riteks, the "DVD-R47AS10" is right below the barcode #, on the CMC there is a gap/space.
So if you bought multiple packs, can you confirm this? I'm not opening another that looks like it's CMC, and only have one Ritek pack.
The made in Japan labels also look to be printed on a sep machine from these two so this may be the way to tell.
??????? -
Hhahaha ....
,
So the TDK DVD-R is 2X too ? I dont have to go there to exchange. I will try to burn them before I return them. Dammn... I woke up at 8:00AM wait and came there at 9:55AM and was the first one in the store to buy these ....
Hahha -

. Go and buy it guys, it is cheaper than a dollar and you can return at the store if it is bad. If you buy on net, then you may pay for shipping and return shipping cost
Cheers,
