hi, my computer shop sells the artia topped ritek cdrs and iw as wondering if these are good quality or not.
some say ritek is crap, others say that they are only second to taiyo yuden
is there any truth to either claim?

I have been using Ritek DVD-R's for about 5 months now and have never experienced any problems during burning or playback. I feel that they are the best options for the money. I buy mine in spindles of 50 @ Newegg.com. However, I am not experienced with Ritek CD-R's.

Ritek are my weapon of choice, too.
One word of advice, though - all of the Arita discs I have seen are grade B - overprints and the like. They're fine, they seem to work OK, but the will probably have been double handled and you might find the finish on them to be inferior to Ritek manufactured unbranded or Ridata, for example. -
Arita are occasionally used to offload grade B stock, hence th cheaoer price, check out this topic https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=206055&highlight=arita
In terms of Ritek cdrs i bought a bulk order of samsung branded ritek cdrs a few years ago, no read errors on my ones from a few years ago, and they still burn fine today (the ones i have left) -
Deja Vu. Am I the only one out here that remembers when anything with the name Ritek associated with it was avoided like the plague?
Although I'm glad to see they've come a long way since those days,
Taiyo Yuden and Mitsui are still kings of the hill in the cd-r realm.
Even Maxell labels their TY disc's as "Pro" and slaps a higher price tag on them."It is not enough to obey Big Brother. You must love him". -
Ritek has long been known as the #1 worst CD-R and CD-RW media ever made.
Only with RITEKG04 DVD-R did they succeed, but even that is beginning to weaken with all the mistakes and bad batch problems from recent months. The RITEKG01 was worse than PRINCO, and the RITEKG03 was pretty bad at times too.
Buyer beware. There are better media if quality is more important than the almighty dollar.
TAIYOYUDEN and PIONEER CD media is the best of the best.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Ok. I feel better now. I was starting to feel like I was in an alternate reality or something. Thank you Lordsmurf.

Agreed - TY's are excellent.
However, the Ridata CD-R's I'm using at the moment have got the lowest BLER of any CD-R I've ever seen... these buggers rock (shame about the bogey green label, though).
