  3. That thread doesn't really help me...the video is not on the computer. If I have HDTV on my tv and a DVD recorder how would I do it...can I without hacking or using wierd techniques to put it on my computer?

  5. I believe that you could get a JVC HD tape recorder to record HDTV but no DVD recorders yet will record HD. For the time being what I do to watch regular DVD movies at 720p is I bought the Bravo D1 DVD player which is DVI enabled with a built in "Sima" scaler. http://www.vinc.com/product.asp?id=31&PID=21

    There are also Hard Disk recorders (like TiVo) that can record HDTV. I know Zenith has one for terrestrial antenna, and Dish Network has one for their satellite service.
