  1. If you've got pops & clicks on audio try deleting your Sound preferences Every time you start to do any video capturing.

Clicks are caused by 2 things:

    1) audio being converted from incoming 32 or 41 to the standard 48 digital setting.

    2) Loud points in your audio levels hitting the 0db level - remember digial is perfect at -0.2db and perfect distortion at or above 0db.

The problem I was having was that the sound preferences were disrupting my audio capture settings.

Now I delete the preferences every time.

Now if I could just fix my sync problems, though these are related to the sampling rates....

  2. To remove the chance of clicking I've also added an old graphic equalizer into my video capture chain (VHS to graphic equalizer to Sony media converter to firewire).

I've put the lowest bass settings and the highest treble settings to their lowest settings (i.e. -12db).

On my graphic it now shows:

    31hz, 62hz and 125hz at -12db (bass settings)
    8khz and 16khz at -12db (treble settings)

As the VHS tapes I have seem to have some hum/hiss problems this has helped the sound.

I've also got a circuit to build an audio limiter, which will compress any anolog signal too hot to go to digital.

More importantly, it has lowered the level going into the Sony media converter, minimizing the clicks caused by digital overload.

I also think I've fixed my sync problem. There was another Qucik Draw extension in the Quicktime extensions folder in the extensions folder. I thought I'd got all the QD extensions removed.
