For those that do not know, Pioneer recently demonstrated dual layer recording
technology using a modified A06 Recorder. According to reports, the A06 drive may have been stock standard with just modified firmware. This, of course, has aroused some interest amongst A06 and earlier model owners.
I questioned Pioneer concerning this and received the following
quote from their technical division:
"Dual-layer writing was possible on DVR-A06 only for what they demonstrated at the
show. Or in other words, we cannot say that we can always do it with current A06.
Also, the manufacturer like Pioneer, can not say that "our product can
dual layer-write " until the dual layer-writing is formally authorized
by the "DVD forum".
So, reading between the lines, hope is not perhaps lost.

When I was an adolescent I was on occasion rude and impatient too. I grew up.

I read that only modified firmware is needed for A06 to be able write on dual layer. However, I do not believe they will release it. Rather you have to buy new DVD writer
So do I.
But Phillips' dual layer DVD writer should be available soon.Johny Becher. Friend of yours ;) -
The 1st post was made before the DVD forum made their decision on the final format for dual layer. Now that they have, I'm less interested as I wanted full backwards compatability for standalones- some hope
I don't wish to pay a premium for the Philips, write at an effective 1x speed on media that costs half as much again as ordinary DVD media and then have to view it on my 18" computer display. BluRay looks suss as well. AOD looks more promising - it may be worth buying a new standalone/recorder for that.
time will tell.. -

Thanks for the news Offline. I was still wondering about this myself. When I first heard my A06 possibly writing dual layers I was pumped.....then pissed when they said I couldn't...............now there still may be hope.
Thanks again and keep the updates coming.

Thanks for the info. I have a Pioneer A06, I hope they release the firmware... just to play with it.
Keep us update, willya?
Thanks! -
What about my "old" A05? Any possibility...? (I say "old" but I bought it new just over 12 months ago...!). Where do I find the firmware?? I'd be willing to risk it...be the "guinea pig"...considering DVD burners are pretty cheap these days!?

unbelievable...i cant believe that people are thinking this is possible..
different modded hardware, software and firmware is modified, and well, not that lasers have much to do with it.. -

This website has presented info to the effect that there is firmware available for the A06. Maybe what we all need is MORE INFORMATION! Can you offer us MORE INFORMATION, or are you just gonna keep wanking your delusions of grandeur?? Why even waste your time posting in this thread? You got nothing to offer except your boring sense of delusional self-importance...which no one is really interested in but you & your hand. I got no idea of the technical implications of converting to dual-layer burning...do you?

dont get your hopes up for the 106 dual writing firmware.
about 10 days ago a german tech magazine addressed the issue, and it said after investigating the issue with pioneer it concluded that not only the firmware was upgraded but the hardware was modified too.
sorry to break it down to you. -
