  1. Any help would be great. Ripped a movie (The Hulk) with DVD Decrypter without any problems. Encoded with DVD Shrink and burned without problems, or so I thought. Movie played fine till the last 10-15min., then it would freeze and start and freeze. Compressed movie to about 4.3GB on dvd. Using Lite-on 811 to burn and Lite-on LVD 2002 to play. This happened with a few other movies. Thanks

sounds like the media you are using isn't top notch, the dye around the outside edges isn't great, hence the dvd player not being able to read it. Try other media brands.

its not the media - its dvd shrink - get the new version that just came out -they fixed that error that it freezes - i had the same prob and used cheap media then went to expensive and it did the same thing - after i updated dvdshrink prob went away - read the log file in the new version and it even tells you

  8. Could be either the media (most likely) or the version of dvd shrink. Try the latest version (3.1.6)

I used to have the same problem until I switched to Riteks. I was using Verbatims which I thought were decent....I guess not!

  9. As I have said before may be BS, but this works. Use only your region code. No region free, no multi region (unless the disk is multi region.)

    Use good disks.

I have had zero probs since I started doing this (pluss I burn to HD, then use Nero), and my Audiovox portable is very touchy.

  10. I, too, have had zero problems with the past three releases of DVD Shrink, forty-some successful DVD backup's later. What I have noticed with some practice burns, using DVD+RW discs, is I sometimes have to burn at a slower speed than the burner can handle or the disc might have playback problems.

It seems unlikely to me that DVD Shrink is causing "playback problems". There's so many variables in the whole process of backing up: the burner, the burning software, the media, and the player seem more likely candidates for playback problems. Dirty burn/playback lens? However, I agree with the other comments in that it's probably bad media -- a bad lot of discs, or perhaps damaged somehow in transporting or storing?

Seems to me you could easily determine whether or not it IS DVD Shrink by playing the movie back from your hard drive before burning it to DVD. After you use DVD Shrink to write the files, play them back through either DVD Shrink, or some other DVD playback software and see if it plays properly. After all, you're making identical copies of those files to a DVD disc, so playback should be the same.

when my media freezes at the end it doesnt show up on my computer - only when i burn - which is really weird b/c after i updated dvdshrink the prob stopped - i used sandy yang and g04 - both did the freeze - i also heard about the region thing - i also heard try to compress it an extra 200 mb so the dye wont go all the way to the end - in the new version of dvdshrink in the log file it said it updated the prob of freezing on certain dvd players -

  12. I must add don't burn at Max speed! for me if I burn at 4x I usually have a couple of scenes that are "jumpy" but if I burn in 2x i have no problems at all. I always use princo dvd-r 25pack spindle. cheap and very reliable at 2x.

  13. I burned Hulk sometime back:

    Ripped all files with DVDdecryptor
Shrink 3.1.3 (movie only, 5.1 surround) - 82.7% compression with deep analysis
Burned with Record Now Max 4.5.
    TDK 4X DVD+R burned at 4X
    Sony DRU500A 2.0g firmware

No problems, just watched the backup it yesterday.

How did it look? I'm thinking of backing up my sons Hulk movie. Stuck it in yesterday to analyze it. and noticed the compression after removing the all audio tracks except English 5.1 with movie only was 80.0%. Was actually thinking of putting it on 2 disks. That compression just seems a bit low to me. I can bring it up a couple more percent by removing the credits. But that's it.

once again, its all in the eye of the beholder, but i've got plenty of movies that are at around 70% that look fine to me.

but try it out, if you dont like it, then go to 2 discs.
