  1. I am trying to burn a bunch of mpg files directly onto a dvd using Nero. I tried playing them in a Malata DVP-520 and a Pioneer DV-563A with no luck. However if I burn it as a DVD-Video disc it plays fine. Am I doing something wrong, or do neither of those players support direct MPEG files?

Also, for some reason my burner is not showing up on TMPGEnc Author, it is a Plextor 708a. If I select recording device it just has a blank space there.

Very few stand alone DVD players will play MPEG-1/MPEG-2 files simply burned to the disc as a data disc. You have to create a VCD, SVCD or DVD disc.

Don't know why this is BUT if DVD Decrypter is working for you then you can use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create an ISO IMAGE FILE then you can use DVD Decrypter to BURN that ISO IMAGE FILE to a DVD ... this is actualy the method I use myself simply because I've never had a DVD Decrypter burnt DVD not work for me.

  3. Ok that makes sense.

I just went and burned a DVD-Video disc and it plays fine, except there is no audio!?! Any ideas?

All DVD players have a set up menu where you can select different types of audio. The Malata players tend to have more options than most. So play around with those settings til you find one that works. You may find that only one setting works for MP2 audio (which is what a VCD or SVCD uses) whereas another setting is needed for AC-3/DTS whereas yet another is needed for a DVD with LPCM audio.

Well, I already looked when there was no audio, and I just looked again. There is no sort of changes I can make to audio settings for my dvd player.

edit: Also I have been able to play VCD's on this player before, so I know it supports those fine.

Well that doesn't make any sense. Every DVD player I have seen has at least 2 different settings for the AUDIO and the old Malata 996 or 997 (I forget the exact model number now) had more than just 2 choices.

    So you aren't looking right.

Again it should be somewhere in the set-up menu of the DVD player. Make sure you don't have any type of disc in the player when you access the set-up menu.

Well, this can be the first for you then. There are NO options for audio settings for the DVD player. So I AM looking right. Thanks for nothing but a rude attitude.

I got audio working by using analog cables for Mpeg and using coax for the rest.
