I just got a GPS unit that lets you listen to MP3 files or watch movies. I'm pretty computer literate but a total newbie when it comes to video stuff. The SD card has folders named MP3 and MP4, and the users manual makes it clear that I can drag and drop music files to the MP3 folder and movie files to the MP4 folder.

The demo movie file is a one-minute avi file. And I don't even know what that is! But I did watch it and it got me to thinking...

SO...if someone who's been there and done that can explain to me:

    1) am I restricted to viewing avi files, and is that a problem?
    2) do I need any type of player, or do I just slap a movie on the card and go?
    3) WHERE does one get these avi movies and are they easy to transfer to the SD card via a card reader?
    4) SD card..my understanding is that movie files are extremely large. How large an SD card should I get.?
    5) The maps are on the SD card. SO I'll have to copy them to my computer, then back on to the SD card which I'll put a movie on, right?

...I would appreciate it very much!

And I'll bet a lot of others would, too, now that the price on these GPS units is hitting as low as $109! I paid $149 for my Invion GPS and it is absolutely great.

THANK YOU for your time and attention to this post.

I have no clue why anyone would want to play a movie on a GPS unit, but to each his own.

Drop that demo file into Gspot 2.70 and see what it says about it. Post a screen shot if possible. https://forum.videohelp.com/topic271697.html

You would need to duplicate that format, if possible.

SD cards can be obtained in up to 1-2GB sizes, maybe bigger. But your unit may not work with those large of cards. Check the GPS manufacturers website for specs.

Be careful with those maps. Some GPS units use very proprietary formats. I would set that card to the side and use a new one or you might destroy your map files permanently.
