  1. Hi,

I am trying to convert several files that are in these formats DivX/Xvid/MPEG into DVD, but I'm a little confused with the Audio encoding parts after reading several guides on conversion.

For DIVX to MPEG, I saw one guide (on http://www.ircspy.com/guides.asp) that says I should extract the audio using VirtualDub as a WAV file, then have TMPGEnc re-encode the audio when creating the MPEG file. Although, this contradicts this guide: http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html
which says, "not to encode the audio in TMPGEnc" and not to use MPEG audio because "the only two formats guaranteed to be compatible with all players are PCM and AC3."
So that leads me to believe I should follow this guide: "How to convert AVI/DivX/XviD with AC3 to DVD with AC3", which has me extract the audio to AC3, then re-encode it when I run TMPEncDVD author. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/186739.php
So I guess my question is that the guide on ircspy.com is wrong and that I should follow the guide with AC3 audio.

For MPEG1 to DVD, isn't the audio is also in MPEG1, so does that means I need to convert the MPEG1 audio to a different format before adding it using TMPGEnc DVD Author?

The majority of players shouldn't have a problem with mpeg audio. My advice is stick with the mpeg audio that TMPGEnc creates and burn a test disc and try it out in your standalone player. Don't worry about converting to AC-3 unless you absolutely have to.

If the divx has ac3 sound already then i would just use that for the sound without re-encoding it.
