I quickly realized how out of control the a faq thread for the comptuer seciton might get so I'm been kinda working on a FAQ or online KB that has some info, and mostly just points to specific threads talking about common questions.

A WARNING: Anything in there right now is test stuff... so you may see some strange entries....

With that warning you can check it out at

Page is too hard on the eyes.(mabye just my old eyes)
Perhaps different colors - white on black is easy to read.

BOLD the headings to seperate subjects.

Good stuff - Keep up the good work .I am in the process of doing the same myself for a web page, as I keep getting asked time and time again similar questions.

A better explanation of HOW the hardware relates in the video editing scope would be nice.

ie: although a RAID array was essential years ago when drives were slow and digital (DV) capture was rare it it no longer essential.
WHY ?! - because DV is only 3.7 MegaBYTES a second. Analog on the other hand, can be over 27 MegaBYTES a second.

    or

The CPU is the 'brains' behind the video encoding. It has little to do with the DV transfer or DVD ripping. The faster the CPU however, the faster it can encode (or convert your video). Presently there are a few programs optimized for the Intel processor but "generally speaking" the faster the CPU (measured in Ghz) the better.

I think it's a great idea. (Of course it helps that I have a system similar to what you have suggested) I started out with Amiga's and MacIntosh's and it took a while to learn about the IBM type systems. XP makes life a lot easier for newbies, but it seems a lot of problems they bring on themselves from not understanding their machines.

I can attemp to bold the subjects, not sure if it will work with the system I"m using but I'll give it a shot.

The white on darkblue/black is what I've always used on my website, this is actually the first complaint I've had about it.

I'm only planning on adding topics to my thread at the top that seem to come up a lot. Mine was only meant to be a basic start that people should read first and then ask questions from there. Yours sounds like it's meant to be more all-encompassing which is good info. Once you're out of beta stages I can add a link to it in my thread

The FAQ itself works fine, I just wanted to test some things before it went live. You can link it in your thread if you want, I'm currently adding some questions in and it may check a bit as time goes on.

Likely I'll start a sticky thread at the top that says something like "Read here first or look the fool!" when more stuff is in there.
