hello

i am converting an avi file to svcd with ac3 audio. i use a guide on this site to use virtual dub to extract the audio and save it as a wav file, with no compression selected, full processing mode selected, and conversion selected to change the sample rate. with the ac3 thing installed, that is no longer a problem.

i am finding though that again and again the saved wav file comes out scratchy sounding, especially every time the sound gets loud in the file, if you know what i mean. it is not like this in the source file, i have compared.

i installed toolame and set it as the external audio compressor in tmpgenc. however, is this really going to improve the quality? it seems to me that the quality is going down because of a setting in virtual dub, not tmpgenc. if i have toolame set up in tmpgenc, do i still use virtual dub to get the audio, or do i now use tmpgenc?
