I know that there is a whole lot of Q&A regarding sync problems - but I have never seen an explanation to this.
When I try to capture VHS-tapes to AVI I sometimes get a strange result with a video that is 25-50% shorter than the audio. The video looks as it would have dropped every second frame but not any of the capturing programs (VirtualVCR, Studio8, Virtualdub...etc) reports any dropped frames. I have tried with different resolutions fron 720*576 down to 384*288 - same result. With and without compression - same result. I work with a Pinnacle PCTV PCI card and composite (PAL). I am using the Pinnacle 5.5 drivers.
So far the only clue I have is that this seemes to occure only on tapes that I have recorded on my "best" i.e most expensive VCR fram Hitachi.
