Just ordered my first burner. Went with the NEC2500. On order from NewEgg and will hopefully arrive by the end of the week.
In any case, I wanted opinions on whether to attach the drive via IDE or SATA (with IDE Serillel2 converter). I have the Abit NF7-S v2 board, and currently have only 2 IDE devices. An 80gb hard drive on primary and a LiteOn combo drive on secondary. So, I figure I can either move my hard drive onto SATA1 using the adapter, or I can put the DVDR on SATA with the adapter. Any comments on the best way to go?
Also, any comments on the NEC and which media works best also welcomed.

Why don't you put your burner on as the primary on your secondary IDE channel and your Lite-on as the secondary on that channel.

Isn't it generally recommended to put the drive on a channel by itself when possible to improve performance?

The concensus is out on that one. Some say yes and some says it doent matter. I use my Plex 708a on the second IDE channel as slave and it burns at 8x. So in my case it didnt matter if it was slave or master or which IDE channel was used.
