i have been backing up my dvds for about a year now and have never had a problem with the vcd truning out choppy..here recently, it seems like just about every one i do is blocky in parts of the movie. it is very frustraing. here is what i do:
1) dvd decrypter (main movie and main menu)
2) dvd2avi
3) tmpgenc ---> use the wizard, split movie in middle with source range, select 2 pas vbr and enter min and max bitrate, then on the screen where you can chose you medium type, i chose 80 min cd, and set the max file size to 100% ( which automatically sets my avg bitrate). then i encode it.
4) load mpeg and all the stuff for my menus and scene seletion screens into vcdeasy and set up all the interactivity stuff so i can have my interactive menus.
the only thing that i am doing different now, is when i set 2 pas vbr, i use the "old stlye" versuses regular 2 pass vbr. can theis have anything to do with it? please help

I am anxious to know if you solved your problem. I have a similar problem right now with moving scenes creating macro blocks although they dont appear at all in the source vob.

so far i seem to have corrected it. all i did was set my max bitrate on the 2 pass vbr to 2200 instead of 2500
