just created my first DVD today with Pinnacle studio 8 - very easy, but I'm having real problems burning it.
Using TDK 440N burner with mirror x2 media (from same batch that I have succesfully burnt backups to).
The problem is the discs won't play in my standalone Minato DVD G1.
They will play in my portable player and on the PC.
Tried to create .iso file and burn that (unsuccessful)
Tried to burn with Studio 8 (unsuccessful)
Tried to burn with Nero - but it says unable to reallocate files.
Any ideas - technically I'm not making coasters, but I would like to play the disc on my standalone.

check out your problem player in the "DVD Players" ( see column on l/h side of this page)... info there may give you some leads.

I'm sure its not the player, as I've used this media with it for a while now.
Tried re-rendering, and still getting same problem. Think it must be a problem with VIDEO_TS.ifo, as DVD Shrink reports "impossible condition" and refuses to open it.
Nero says "one or more files do not belong to corresponding .ifo file".
Tried ifoedit to create new .ifos. Won't open VIDEO_TS.vob, but will create .ifos from first VTS .vob file.
However Nero still refuses to burn - says VIDEO_TS.vob is unrefferenced.
I thought burning would be the easy part of using studio 8, but I'm getting a little frustrated with all of this.
Any ideas?"Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
updated to latest version of studio 8.
Can now burn with nero, but still won't play on standalone.
Ran it through ifoedit, but I think that VIDEO_TS.vob is the problem, as when trying to play it, it reports "unknown streams"
I am using menus - could this be the problem.
Also when creating disc content, it tells me that it has finished, but the display says there are still 600MB left to do."Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
Did you try to create files only and burn them ?
Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
well, I did both.
Created the files and then dropped them into nero to burn, and also tried burning directly from studio 8.
Having updated I can now burn with Nero, but as I've said the disc won't play."Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
What else do you have for burning ? What kind of software came with your DVD Writer ? Maybe current Nero have some issues since I saw another post with issue like yours only DVD was backup copy or something like that.

using nero 5.5.10.50, but it's not a problem with nero.
I don't think that studio 8 is creating the VIDEO_TS.ifo and VIDEO_TS.vob files properly.
I have heard that there may be a menu issue, but even a simple menu produces the same problem.
Have considered using studio 8 to edit, and then maybe create menus and render in another prog (preferably cheap!)."Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
I remember I had exactly the same problem with Studio 8 (and burn with Nero).
When you burn with Nero, make sure you check the box that finalize the disc (disc at once or something like that). Some standalone DVD players cannot play non finalized discsktnwin - PATIENCE -
I may be way off here, but I do know that Studio 8 creates two additional files when you create the DVD and save it to your harddrive for burning with another app.
Before I load the files into Nero, I've always had to delete these two additional files. I think one is called volume or audio - something to that effect. -

Well, you're right. I just don't load them. I was just curious if he was actually burning those two files as well and that was the reason his player wouldn't play the DVD.

I use the DVD video template in Nero, and drag only the .vob, .bup and .ifo files accross (in fact Nero won't let you put anything else in the VIDEO_TS folder even if you try.)
Will look in to the finalise disc option when I get home."Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
still haven't solved problem.
Tried creating new title set with DVD fab lite, but still won't burn properly.
Tried removing menu, but VIDEO_TS.ifo remains corrupt.
Should I dump studio 8 altogether, or could there be another workaround (maybe outputing to mpeg, or avi files and then authoring with another(cheap) prog?).
Determined to solve this one, as this is home movie of my daughters birthday."Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
Well DVD of my doughters birthday works fine...
When I will get back home this weekend I will give you more info of how I burn with Nero.

thanks donpedro
just tried rendering as mpeg then creating DVD through DVD movie factory (SE version I got with a cheap camera), but still doesn't work.
Also tried rendering "photoshoot" as DVD - doesn't work.
Donpedro, when you "create disc" does the counter all all the way down to 0MBs, because mine drops to about 150MBs, the shoots back up to 600MBs and tells me the disc content has been succesfully created."Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
"create disc" : not sure... sorry
If I were you I would concentrate on
DVD Player (try some in store or at friends)
Media (try to buy some rewritable -RW, which one are you using now ?)
DVD Writer (if you can, try to copy same media with different one)Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
using mirror x2 -R at present (DVD player can't play -RW), but it also fails with other media.
Looking through the pinnacle forums this seems to be quite a common problem, but no one there has a solution either"Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
I would not blame Pinnacle since you tried DVD movie factory wirh same result.

just read a post today suggesting that certain players wont play discs with less than 4.0Gb on it.
My film is only 2.0Gb - could this be the problem.
If so, any way to pad out the disc, without changing the film?"Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" -
Some recording sofwares "fill up" disc somehow.... I think... I believe it is more about how much of surface (TOC) is burned than with size of files... But I might be wrong on this one.

sorry folks, been busy with work, but I've solved my problem.
Basically it was a problem with the standalone player - it won't read discs which are only half full.
All I did was create an extra folder ( at same level as VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS) and fill it with copies of the .vob files. These .vob files I then renamed (to any obscure name), and changed their properties to hidden.
Result - one DVD playable on my standalone.
Thanks for all your suggestions and input.
One happy rodent"Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted"
