iDVD4: limited to 7 chapters per menu

What is the rational for limiting the number of chapters to seven.

Do other programs, like Toast 6, offer more flexibility?

btw, thanks to all for your help. my 400MHz G4 is doing fine burning these DVD's even though it doesn't meet the minimum requirements.

Toast 6 gives you no control over the menus, background, etc.. It does everything automatically with the same background and I think it only puts three titles per screen.

Sizzle is free and *might* do what you are looking for. I think you could put as many Chapter markers on a screen as you want, but you are lot more limited than iDVD on look and feel type things.


If you want both "look and feel" control and flexibility you may need DVD Studio Pro.

It is actually a very rational move on apples part. Notice how every menu looks fine with 7 items on each page. It keeps the clutter down, and makes everything managable. Also, as far as I know, I've never seen a commercial DVD with more than seven items per menu. Also, back to the iDVD thing, I belive it allows to you to have more than 7 chapters per title right? Just it needs more pages. I haven't played with iDVD 4 yet, so if they've removed that feature then yeah, its stupid.

I recommend trying out Sizzle. Its damn cool.
