  2. I find the EPSON photo paper to be excellent, but I don't see spending the extra cash on photo paper when a good bright white Matte paper will work great, too.

Try both, and use what looks best to your eye.

For photographs or DVD covers, I use Epson Photo Paper. 120 sheets for $19.99 at Costco's in New Jersey. Beautiful quality.

  5. I use Epson matte paper heavyweight.

Don't have to put alot of ink on it to get a good quality print. No, it's not perfect photo quality, but come on.. do you want to spend more on ink+paper than you do on the dvd?

The R300 is a Photo Printer but most importanly, a DVD/CD printer. Unless you insist on still printing on lables, any pther printer will do. If you want good photo paper Epson Premium Glossy is superb. I print directly on Riteks 4x G04 printables and I think they look awesome
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

I use standard recycled photo copier paper to print the DVD box art covers. They are flimsy as compared photo grade glossy paper. They look pretty good when you put them in a DVD case under the clear plastic cover, they take on a gloss look. I just cant see in paying about 4x-8x the cost for photo quality paper for DVD covers since the matte paper looks gloss like when installed in the standard DVD case. Since I get the copier paper for free, its a no brainer for me as to what to use. I am cheap when it comes to disposable stuff, like paper.... I save the photo grade paper for photographs.

BTW...what DVD cover print program are u pple using. I been using Nero (original art work) and UndercoverXP (scan bkup covers) to print.

  8. Anyone:
With the R300, or any other cd/dvd printer, can you just use blanks with a label afixed to it instead of always having to use printable a cd/dvd? Of course this would be a meaningless question if the cost difference between regular blacks and printable is small. I'm not sure. I definitely know that printables are harder to find so I'm still curious. Thanks everyone.

I am prob one of the few that use this method. I burn, apply label, and then print, using Epson 900. By doing this I get by the prob with wrinkles and bubbles on the paper labels. I use to use printable CD/DVD but the smearing was causing some returns from some DVD's I made for my clients. I had to coat them with a clear coat. This was time consuming so I went back to paper lablels. I also provide my clients with a non labeled discs just in case (I dont do the editing just the copying, one of my partners does the edit).

Can u get 8.5x14 photo grade paper. I havent found any. DVD covers dont fit on a 8.5x11 paper, so I had to print on standard 8.5x14 paper. Normally this is not an issue, but we've been doing some good paying transfer work on some company presenations, and wanted a better looking/feeling stock for printing the DVD covers. Both my HP Photosmart and Epson Photo Sylus can only handle 8.5x11 or 8.5x14 paper, can not do large format print work, dont want to invest in a large format printer if I dont have too right now.

  11. Thanks for your reply DTSL06. I've seen 8.5x14 photo grade paper at Compusa and Staples. Compusa even carries Epson B size (8x17) premium photo paper. It was $40 for 20 sheets

I don't know what size your dvd covers are, but mine fit fine on a 8.5x11 piece of paper, I just have to turn off the normal margins and click on maximum printable area.

Also, if you don't already have one, I would suggest picking up a rotary paper trimmer to cut the covers with. After using scissors for 2 months, I can't tell you how much easier, faster, and better a rotary cutter is. I got mine for free from a local camera store, they were going to throw it out because the plastic piece that hold the paper down was broken off, I easily made one from some plexiglass and a dremel.

I use HP Semi Gloss 44lb 8.5x11 paper. Doesn't stick to the sleve like some full/high gloss. Though heavy matte paper looks ok, the main difference is better blacks with the gloss.

I use one of these to cut with (~$35 at staples)
