    Hi there,
I'm having difficulty with converting AVI files (divx/xvid) to SVCD. Basically i follow everything said in this guide:

    http://www.gkhull.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/SVCDGuide/GaryFoolproofAVItoSVCDGuide.pdf

I strip the audio, convert it to 41000khz and save as wav(using Vdub) and then encode using the original video as the video source and the wav file as the audio (using TMPGENC). All formats are as they should be etc. The problem is, when i have burnt the resulting file to SVCD, whilst playing, i get picture distortion and general audio out of sync by about half a second. Sometimes the video judders, pixelates and goes green in places. This all usually doesnt happen till about halfway through the file.

I burn the SVCD using nero (quite an old version bundled with the drive which incidentally is a Liteon 32/12/40) using infiniti media.
This doesnt happens all the time but quite frequently.

All encoding/converting/burning is done with no background applications running with the program at a high thread priority. There are no problems with the source files as far as i can tell.

    Thanks fro your help.

  2. Why separate video and audio, only to rejoin them?
Let TMPGEnc do it all in one step. It can resample at the correct freq.
    Look on the Audio tab.

    Foolproof? There's no such thing!
Your AVI is probably not 100% ok, so the encoder gets into trouble trying to encode it at the place where you see pixelization and stuff. Usually audio goes aout of whack at this point too. Nothing else to do than A) Drag the AVI over to the recycle bin or B) try to fix it by scanning for and removing bad frames with VirtualDub MP3 Freeze (guides to be found left). A good first measure is to simply save the AVI using direct stream copy in VirtualDub.

First of all thanks for your reply guys,
When i say the AVI appears ok i mean that i can watch it on my PC as an avi without issues.
I do scan the files for video error using Vdub and none are found. I'll try to do the direct dtream copy save and just use the single source like you guys suggest - i'll let you know the outcome.

    Thanks again guys.

That has in itself tells you absolutely nothing about the integrity of the AVI. AVI players are very tolerant and just skips parts that can't be read. Encoders aren't that forgiving...

Try burning the svcd on a cdrw and see if you still get those green blocks and pixelations,if you dont then its most like the media you burned with and/or too fast of burning speed.
