  1. We tried using autoshrinkISO3.1 along with the newest version of DVDShrink 1.34,,and was having problems. Started in autoshrink, copy to hard drive, then went to DVDshrink. Selected the movie to encode, when process was done, it should have started the iso process in autoshrink,,instead we received this message...."Automation error, Application-defined or object-defined error" Anybody have any ideas what this means,,or perhaps since the newest "Shrink" is a beta version, this is to be expected?
    thanks,

  2. DVD Shrink 1.3.4 is NOT beta. I just test it with AutoShrinkISO 1.3 and it works flawlessly. Not sure what your experiencing.

Are you using 1.3.4 beta 0, 1.3.4 beta 1, or 1.3.4 beta 2 perhaps. Even if you are I doubt that matters.

Anyway most likely your brother didn't initially configured AutoShrinkISO to point to the programs. Make sure it matches the paths as in the screenshot. Most likely they'll be the same.

  3. We just downloaded it this afternoon, and all it said was 3.14(I had just read in this forum that it was a beta version, so just assummed that was true). We were following you guide(thanks for providing it online), and I did take a quick glance to see where each program was pointed,,but maybe I need to take a closer look, as I thought they looked fine. At least that is a place to start looking. Thanks for your input.

Autoshrink with 1.3.4 works great for me. I am a past user of DVD2SVCD and am used to starting up this program and letting it run while I sleep. I love how I can just set up Autoshrink and let it run my burner and shut off the computer. Makes DVD backup really easy. I have a 4x burner, but this program would really be nice for someone with a 1x burner. DVDshrink is a great program. Thanks to the author.

He checked this morning, and the paths are indeed correct, they lead to the files that are needed. Now,,what else is there to check, as he tried it again after comfirming paths, and still received the same error message.

I'll have him check, he gets off work in about 30 minutes,,Im not sure what version he has,,,I had him download it last week. I've been doing some more reading, could this have anything to do with his problem, as he is using windows 98?..".FAT32 4GB file limitation",,I think within autoshrinkIso the split image is checked to "no".

  8. The problem is that Win98 does not include the "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) CORE 1.5"

This software package is already installed by default on Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium and XP.

You can download the WMI for windows 98 here. Install it then you should be ok.

PS. The only thing you won't be able to do is Include DVD Rom Content. I am looking into a way for this to work on win98.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! ,,,I'll pass that on to him, and see what happens. He had expressed an interest in upgrading to Windows XP anyway,,so he may do that in the future. Thanks to everyone that replied to this thread, your input was much appreciated!!!!!(by the way,,since its Win 98,,should he have the "yes" or "no" checked in the separate image box within autoshrinkIso?

I'm the guy who is actually having the problem my brother was trying to help with. It seems I'm still having trouble getting this all to work right. After downloading WMI for windows and I no longer get error screen in autoshrinkISO, but it won't always convert files to ISO. As stated earlier I'm using AutoShrinkISO in conjuction with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. When I get done with backup in DVD Shrink and the screen comes up saying "Backup Complete", it should automatically switch to to AutoShrinkISO so it can change files over, but it just sets there. My only option is to click Ok on "Backup Complete" screen and the it takes me back to DVD Shrink. You can put in another dvd and it will work, is it possible that some dvd's just can't be converted to ISO files?

Also when AutoShrinkISO gets done I assume it should automatically open up Decrypter, but it doesn't, I have to do manually. Is there a fix for this?

If the problem is with AutoShrink I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling with same results.

Split Image is checked yes and all paths seem to be right as stated in earlier posts.

    I am using Windows 98SE.

This is all new to me so hopefully I will be able to answer any questions you might have. Thanks!

autoshrinkiso is creating an iso file but instead of the normal.Iso file,,,it is creating a .iso_00 file,,,what gives with that? Anyway the .iso_00 file will not burn in decrypter.

  13. mccoady,

I see you are new to DVD backing up.

Win98Se has a 4 gigabyte limit. So in order to create an image of a dvd it has to be splitup. The files you are seeing are legitimate. If you look closely you will see a "lst" file that contains a list of all the parts. This is what DVD Decrypter opens up when burning these files. Make sure you have the latest DVD Decrypter or else you will have problems.

    you should be using

    AutoShrinkIso 3.1
    DVD Decrypter 3.1.9.0
    DVD Shrink 3.1.

Yes the versions I have are:
    AutoShrinkISO 3.1
    DVD Shrink 3.1.4
    Decrypter 3.1.9.0

But so far I can't Decrypter to read these split files. Since I'm new to this how do you go about finding the split iso files? I can find the ts files very easily but have had to resort to using Windows search to locate iso files. When I do find the iso file, it just doesn't let me burn them.

I just tried burning a dvd, everything seems to go smooth until I try to find the file in Decrypter. When I did a search for iso file it brought up only one file as ISO_00 in C:\tempiso. When I clicked on this file it dropped a black screen (like what you get when Autoshrinkiso converts files) with some text but just set there instead of taking me back to Decrypter to burn. Any ideas?
