I found that when using NeroVision 2 to create a dvd video, whether it be copying a dvd, or converting avi to dvd, I had to have it create the files into a folder on the hard drive, THEN burn the dvd using those files.

Nero reported that the total space required was 4.28 gig, but it kept ejecting the dvd-r (TDK brand) saying there was not enough space, which was bs. But, if had Nero write to the hard drive instead, then created the dvd, it worked.

Does anyone have any idea why this happens?

You may have to change your Video Quality/Bitrate.

  4. No, that's not it - it's already on a DVD-R, isn't it ? Duh !

I have posted here before that for some reason, Nero "pads out" copies. If you create a new compilation and just drag the files from the source disc into the compilation window, you're still practically doing an "on the fly" copy, but it won't give you any false errors about sizes.
