I have good experiences with converting divx/xvid to SVCD with TMPgenc.
The quality on my standalone is good and I can easily add subtitles and use noisereduction for improving videoquality. (sometimes I need 3 CDr's.)
When I am going to try converting to DVD will that improve the quality of the movie and do I still have the same possibilities ( frameserving subtitles with VDub)) as I have converting to SVCD?

It may improve the quality a bit but not that much...it depends on your source video also. And yes you can add subs the exact same way as before.
