  1. My mother has an extensive DVD collection and wouls like to make back-ups of them all. Here is the problem, she really does not know that much about computer. She's got the basics down but that is about it. I am looking at getting her the NEC 2500A and she will be using DVD -R disks(if that matters) I need to find a utility that will allow her to make DVD quality 1:1 backups very easily. Preferably just one program that allows her to de-encrpyt, and make the copy. Not having to deal with multiple programs is a plus. I tried to turn her on to DVD shrink along with a burning prog but that did not work.

    Thanks

Well, it doesn't really get much better/easier than Shrink IMHO.

Latest shrink burns too, if you've got Nero installed...

  4. So let me make sure I have this straight. Buy Nero and install, then install Shrink. Then only use Shrink and it will automatically use Nero? Will it de-encrypt and everything, too?

  5. nero might come with the NEC burner. it did with NEC 1300a. yes to your last concern/question, but you might also want to download DVD Decrypter for ripping also. it too is free.

  6. If it will de-encrypt, why do I need another program? Sorry Newb here

DVD Decrypter pretty much works like 100% of the time whereas the ripper built-in to DVDShrink works maybe 99% of the time.

Doesn't sound like much but sometimes people bitch that the ripper in DVDShrink doesn't work with some movies. No such complaints with DVD Decrypter.

    P.S.
You might want to look into FabDVD which will split a dual layer disc to 2 DVD-R discs so there is no loss in quality.
