How do I make a backup of a copy protected DVD

I tried using DVD X copy Platnium and it stops during the first part at 97%.
Nero and CloneDVD both said it can not copy protected CDs.

I tried using SmartRipper and got the msg saying try playing the dvd with a player to unlock it. That worked to get the ripping started and I got the msg again at 75% and played the video and got the ripping started again. At 97% I got another msg saying try playing the video and this time it did not work.

Is there a way to rip or copy this type of CD.

Try dvd decrypter and set it to ignore any error msg.
Try another dvd-rom.

If it doesn't work it is probably the media that is crappy.

Are most DVDs of hit movies copyprotected. I've never had a problem making a back up of any of my popular movies. The one I'm having a problem with is a Sonic The Hedge Hog cartoon DVD that I don't think is to popular. Could it be that the original DVD is made by some fly-by-night company that did it and it has errors on it ?
I would have thought that the DVDs from the big guys would be harder to backup.
