    What's an ' ickle'?

NO - basically they need to be in MPEG as you previously stated you have. Then they need to be "authored" into the DVD structure.

Unless of course you have a DVD player that reads MPEG then why bother.

Download a trial copy of TMPGEnc Author and see if it will accept the files. If that doesn't work, read the 'Guides'. Usually, you need to tell us what programs you are using and what you have done with your files so far.

Everyone has their own method and there have been a few posts/polls regarding what people use. So be prepared for many different responses.

I myself just take the avi files and convert them to dvd complient mpeg file in tmpge, use the wizard and select DVD, then just browse the file you want to convert and follow the instructions. There are other things you can do in this wizard like starting point or using filters and all, but just stick with the basics and dont bother with these as yet. Laod your file and keep clicking next until it starts to encode. About an hour later, depending on ur PC, you'll have your files ready. Next I use dvd author and I load the file i just converted (it will be an mv file) and let it convert to dvd files(vobs). You can even burn the dvd after it is finished. It will ask you if you want to do this, but I would hold off until I preview it in power dvd first, if it looks right, then burn it.

    OH YEAH, USE A DVD-RW.

    Hi kate1981,

    See this link:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=725433#725433

...for the steps I take to go from DV cam (transferred to DV AVI on my PC) to DVD disk with menus and good quality. I don't claim it's the best way or the right way as there's loads of ways and loads of different tools. But it will give you a good insight into what you need to do, typical tools and settings.

If your aiming to get over (approx.) 100mins onto a DVD, you'll either need to reduce the quality (by reducing the bitrate, see below) or keep the quality and split the output on more than 1 disc.

A bitrate calculator is used to tell you what bitrate you need to use either:
    1. As a max for Constant Bitrate encoding - CBR, or
    2. As the average for Variable Bitrate encoding - VBR (as I use in the link above).

A good one is the DVDRHelp Bitrate Calculator, but there are others in the Tools section.

Hope that helps. Good luck - It's a minefield and seems hellish at first, but the effort is worth the reward and the satisfaction.
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.
