  1. Will this cause any player compatability issues? If I pick "Region Free" in DVD Shrink, does it mean it has no regional coding or all regional coding? I've heard some players can't play discs that don't have a region code specified...

  2. I've never heard of any problems resulting from making it region free.

Region Free is the same as "ALL Region" in which means that any disc that is "ALL Region" will contain the region coding for all 6 DVD Regions and hence allow you to play DVDs from other countries on your own local player.

So I see no disadvantages with Region Free DVDs.

Right, but, I've heard that some standalone players won't play DVDs that don't have regional coding...it's a copyright protection kinda thingie.

Ah, that's what I was wondering -- whether it meant "all regions" or "no regions". Thanks!

  8. The only "protection" mechanism I might worry about is RCE protection. If you don't remove that your discs may not play correctly. It's yet another option in DVD Shrink thats enabled by default. I've seen it on quite a few DVDs such as "Dogtown and Z Boys" and "Pumping Iron"

Not entirely true, because you can add region protection even on home authored discs.

There are discs that can check to see if the region protection has been removed and refuse to play (this can be done with COMMAND SEQUENCES). Annoying if you don't catch it before you burn.
