  1. I'd like to transfer my videos from my analogic videocamera to VCD and SVCD.
Is Pinnacle DC10+ a good choice for it ?
Can the MJPEG file generated by this card be converted easily to mpeg or mpeg2 ?
Will a VCD generated starting with this card have a good quality played on TV (through card video-out or stand-alone dvd player) ?

    My PC: AMD K6-III 400MHz, 320MB RAM, Quantum fireball LM 30GB 7200rpm ata66, GeForce256 DDR, Soundblaster awe32.

Thanks for everybody can help me !

  2. Your CPU may be a little weak to capture at high resolution with DC10+, therefore affecting VCD quality.
I would go with something in the 700+Mhz range.

  3. No worries, until recently I had a K6-2 400 Mhz processor based system wiht 96 Mb Memory and a DC10+ card.
I could capture at max rate (6Mb/s) and with full resolution without any dropped frames

    cheers

Just make sure you're not using W2K since Pinnacle has that "home users don't use W2K so we're not updating the drivers" attitude.

  5. I'm in the same boat as you are, mate: I'm looking to make SVCDs from analogue with this system: DC 10+ card running on a 350 MHz AMDK7 with a Voodo 3000 video card and 512K RAM on Win98 (yeah, I know it's not actually addressing the upper memory). I've also invested in a Promise IDE RAID array card which is running two identical 8.4 Mb Matrox HDs: I've set the array to striping which gives me an consistent 12 Mb transfer rate. I only rarely get dropped frames (less than 1 per 5 minutes on a bad day.

So far I haven't made an SVCD: I've just been outputting to VHS and have been fairly happy with the results. I sometimes note some digital artifacts, but for the most part I'm happy with it.

I haven't decided yet what I will use to encode and author the SVCD. I'm currently researching Ulead's "DVD Movie Factory" and "Pinnacle Express DV". Both seem to offer the more advanced features I'm interested in. If anyone here has used either program, let me know what you thought of it (especially if you used it with the DC 10+).

  6. jesuschrist, wait 14 days and you will have XP/W2000 driver for DC10+ (watch Pinnacle support website)

And, we used DC30+ board on P133 (1995 year), and it works at 7 MB/s without any dropped frames.....
