Hi all, this is my first posting, and I am proud to say I am a real NEWBIE...
OK, I got the burning from DVD to DVD-R down, I am not an expert, but not to bad...
Here is what I would like to do, and would appreciate as much info as possible...
Alright, I want to backup a DVD movie onto my harddrive (so it can be watched in one piece, not in parts as when I use DVD2One or DVDX, cause then the movie is split into 5 parts in VBO format) What format do I need to put the movie into? And what softwares do I need to do this???
And then, and I have been told it is possible, I would like to convert that movie to fit and be viewed on my Pocket PC... I have seen others do this, but I cannot find out how... Again, any info would be great...
Thanx in advance for any information,
LOL

Right, what you nead to do is READ the guides. I will lay out what you need to look at.
1. To convert vob's to one file you will need to convert to avi if you are just going to watch it on your pc or mpeg1 for vcd or mpeg2 for dvd or vcd. I would go with avi. If you go to the convert section and select dvd to avi you will find a multitude of guides to help you.
2. To backup the dvd use a program called dvd shrink and then nero to burn, again details can be found in the convert section.
3. And for your third item I googled "convert dvd to pocket pc" and got these matches.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=convert+dvd+to+pocket+pc
READING IS FUNDAMENTAL, to quote my primary school teacher.
Any probs shout back.

Thank you... Much appreciated... I have been trying to read some things, but it's a little hard when I don't even know what avi, vod, etc are... But I am getting some ideas...
Than again, very kind..

If I were wanting to rip a movie into the smallest file size without converting to some exotic format.....I'd rip with DVDx into a mpeg1 (vcd format). You can set DVDx to just create one big file, or to break it up into different files, the size of which u can determine. That choice is in the settings, I guess u just didn't see it.

If you want to watch the movie on your pocket pc in windows media player, you will have to have it in .wmv format. Otherwise you will have to get another program (such as pockettv) to watch an mpeg1 or mpeg2 movie as windows media player does not support codecs for these formats on pocket pc. I have been thinking about putting together a guide on how to do the dvd->pocketpc conversion, but I have a few wrinkles to get out of the process first... Here are the basics to do it in .wmv format so you can watch it in pocketpc windows media player.
1) Rip main movie to hard drive (I reccomend using smartripper in movie mode)
2) Demultiplex audio from video (I reccomend DVD2AVI saving audio as wav)
3) Multiplex audio and video to mpg file (I reccomend TmpgEnc)
4) Use windows media Encoder to encode to wmv with PocketPC profile
Those are the basics. Of course, many settings can be tweaked in all the programs, but if you read up you should have no problem.
To just rip one big vob file for the movie, you can use smartripper in movie mode and set it to split at max file size and set max file size to 9999MB and you will get 1 large vob with the movie. -
Thanx all, alot of reading and playing around to try out.... I am going to start trying your suggestions... And trust me, I will have more questions...
Thank you!!!!
