  1. Well As it seems for the moment Ati is wonderful to capture. I don't have any problem capturing. Quality is good and not a single frame Dropped.
    Really great

BUT ! (yes there's a but) using the captured files with Premiere Pro is another story.
Of nearly all the codecs I used to capture (in Avi) a lot do simply Not play in Premiere Pro.
Most of them do play the video but when putting it into the timeline, there's no more audio. (some users of premiere seem to have the same problem, I've read that on the Adobe forums)

I've used lordsmurf's guide and they are good but Huffyuv won't work for me. I don't get any audio in the timeline.
What works well is UYVY video. The audio stays.

Furthermore aren't there any other codecs I could try to use ? because this one is make really unbelievably hugue files !
I would like to edit about 6 hours of tape. but with this setting I can't capture it all into my Hard drives...

    any codec suggestions are welcome

    thanks a lot

  2. the captured avi file are really giving me a hard time together with Premiere Pro.

At such point that I'm really considering using other software to edit my video's.

Maybe with another piece of software, I'll be able to capture with different codecs and trying to compress the Avi's a bit to save some disc space.

Are there any recommendations for great software ? I was getting used to Premiere Pro with all its functions. But right now the video without sound is really frustratiing.
So any advice on really good editing software is more than welcome.

    Thanks a lot,

Premiere hates codecs period. Use uncompressed AVI.

You could capture to DV-AVI, but you'll need to install the codec. Look in the tools section, I think there's a free one in there. Premiere Pro should have no problems with DV-AVI, that's what it was designed for.

    Edit: Here's one for free.

  6. what kind of editing are you wanting to do?....and what is your final destination codec?

  7. Thanks for all your replies !

Well I'll give that DV codec a try.

    What kind of editing ?

Well I want to capture 4 to 5 hours of tape, and edit them to have about an hour of tape.
I've read on lordsmurf's site that if you want to edit the file a lot, I should use Avi. So that's what I want to do.

After I'm done editing. I'll probably use adobe Encore to make a DVD.
Thing is Those 4 to 5 hours will take up a huge amount of Disc Space !

Soo much that I'm consedering only taking the parts I want. (but that's not really practical.)

Furthermore, even without codecs, I'm having some problems with Premiere. The Huffyuv won't give me any sound. The UYVY should work. But both make hugue files...
Oh well... I'll give it a try anyway...
